Summary


As a part-time University of San Francisco MFT Student Trainee, you will work onsite at Alliance Medical Center (AMC) under the supervision of an AMC clinical supervisor to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage and family systems. The part-time USF Student Trainee will apply psychotherapeutic and family systems theories and techniques while gaining experience in providing services to individuals, couples, and families with a focus on mental health diagnosis and treatment. 


The part-time USF MFT Student Trainee role is designed to develop one's clinical skills under the guidance of a licensed AMC clinical supervisor. In this traineeship, students receive one hour of individual supervision (or two hours of group supervision) for every five hours of direct client contact, with regular mid-term and end-of-term evaluations from the assigned AMC clinical supervisor. Supervision is provided remotely while the trainee works on-site at an AMC site.


*** This is a part-time, 20-29-hour-per-week traineeship, grant-funded for a nine-month term, to begin in Summer 2026.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health services to families, couples, individuals, and children using solution-focused therapy under the consistent supervision of a licensed remote AMC clinical supervisor.
  • Conduct intake assessments, needs evaluations, and therapeutic interventions for individuals and families, including observation and discussions to gather information.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of treatment plans under the guidance of the AMC clinical supervisor and the AMC clinical team.
  • Document patient records accurately and in accordance with clinic and licensing standards under clinical supervision.
  • Attend weekly clinical team meetings and engage with other community organizations to broaden your understanding of mental health care.
  • Complete other duties as assigned, based on training needs and scope of practice.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

 Education/Experience

  • Currently enrolled in USF, or have completed a Master's degree in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral science field.
  • No prior clinical experience required; this trainee role is designed to meet academic program requirements while providing hands-on experience and skill development. 
  • Ability to work onsite at an Alliance Medical Center clinic while effectively engaging in clinical supervision that may be provided virtually.
