What is a user experience designer?

A User Experience (UX) Designer is a professional who focuses on creating products, systems, or services that offer meaningful and relevant experiences to users. They are responsible for the overall feel of the product, ensuring it is intuitive, accessible, and enjoyable to use. UX Designers conduct user research, create wireframes and prototypes, and collaborate closely with developers and other stakeholders to align the product with user needs. Their goal is to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty by enhancing the usability and accessibility of a product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a user experience designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a User Experience Designer, you need a strong understanding of user-centered design principles, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing, typically supported by a degree in design, HCI, or a related field. Familiarity with design tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, and user research methodologies is essential. Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively and advocate for users' needs. These skills ensure the creation of intuitive, engaging products that meet both user goals and business objectives.

What are some common challenges user experience designers face when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

User Experience Designers often work closely with product managers, developers, and marketing teams to deliver user-centered solutions. A common challenge is balancing user needs with business goals and technical constraints, which requires clear communication and negotiation skills. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce's client in Armonk, NY is seeking an experienced UX Designer to support a large-scale, greenfield Salesforce customer technology transformation for a regulated energy and utilities organization. The program is modernizing utility customer operations, customer programs, service experiences, data capabilities, integrations, and legacy Salesforce environments while reducing technical debt and preparing the future-state platform for production adoption.
Role Overview :
The UX Designer will lead research, interaction design, prototyping, and usability validation for utility customer and employee experiences. The role will shape journeys and workflows delivered through Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud, OmniStudio and OmniScript, the Clean Energy Module, Service Cloud, Data Cloud, and connected customer channels. This individual will translate complex utility processes into intuitive, accessible experiences and partner with UI, BAs, architects, developers, QA, and change teams through implementation and release.
Responsibilities:
* Plan and conduct user research, interviews, workshops, usability testing, synthesis, and experience validation for utility customer and employee workflows
* Define current-state and future-state journeys across customer service, clean-energy programs, eligibility, enrollment, notifications, self-service, and assisted service
* Translate research and requirements into interaction models, wireframes, prototypes, service blueprints, and detailed design guidance for Salesforce Lightning, OmniStudio, and OmniScript
* Partner with business and technical teams to align experience intent with Energy & Utilities Cloud, the Clean Energy Module, Service Cloud, Data Cloud, and integration constraints
* Define accessibility, responsive behavior, error handling, edge cases, and measurable usability outcomes
* Lead design reviews, prototype validation, handoff, implementation review, defect resolution, and release-readiness activities
REQUIREMENTS:
* 7+ years of relevant enterprise delivery experience, including senior-level ownership of complex workstreams, mentoring, and delivery quality
* Senior enterprise UX experience with a portfolio demonstrating research, complex workflow design, prototyping, and usability validation
* Experience designing for Salesforce Lightning, OmniStudio and OmniScript, CRM, contact-center, or comparable enterprise applications
* Working knowledge of Energy & Utilities Cloud and the Clean Energy Module sufficient to shape utility customer and employee experiences
* Strong proficiency with Figma or comparable tools, Salesforce Lightning Design System, service design, responsive design, and WCAG accessibility
* Strong facilitation and communication skills with the ability to explain design rationale and influence business and technical decisions
* Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments with cross-functional onshore and offshore teams
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain decisions, document risks and dependencies, and collaborate directly with business and technology stakeholders
* Experience using enterprise-approved AI-assisted tools where appropriate, with independent validation of outputs
Preferred Qualifications:
* Utility, clean-energy program, customer-service, or regulated-industry design experience
* Experience with journey mapping, service design, or enterprise design systems
* Salesforce, accessibility, or human-centered design credentials
