What is user experience (UX) design?

User Experience (UX) Design is the process of creating products, systems, or services that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. It involves understanding the needs, behaviors, and emotions of users to design interfaces and interactions that are easy to use, efficient, and enjoyable. UX designers use research, prototyping, and testing to ensure the product meets user expectations and business goals. The ultimate aim is to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction with the product.

How does a user experience designer typically collaborate with developers and product managers during a project?

User Experience Designers work closely with developers and product managers throughout the design and development process. In the early stages, they collaborate with product managers to define user needs and project goals, followed by creating wireframes and prototypes. Throughout development, UX designers communicate design decisions to developers, address technical constraints, and participate in iterative testing and feedback sessions. This collaborative approach ensures that user-centered solutions align with business objectives and technical feasibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a user experience designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a User Experience Designer, you need a strong understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, and proficiency in wireframing and prototyping, often supported by a degree in design or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, and usability testing platforms is typically expected. Excellent communication, empathy, and collaboration skills help UX Designers understand user needs and work effectively with cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure the creation of intuitive, engaging products that meet both user and business goals.

Job description

FASHIONPHILE is more than just fashion — we’re revolutionizing the ultra-luxury fashion experience in order to create a sustainable alternative that extends the life cycle of products and makes them more accessible to a diverse customer base. As we strive to become the world's most sought-after brand in luxury re-commerce, we know it's our team members who make it all happen! We value diversity in our people, perspectives, and products. For us, it's the only way to cultivate the creativity and innovation essential to achieving our mission and supporting our customers. We do this both in-person and through our digital omni-channel experiences. If you're someone who embraces change, is authentic, and wants to make an impact this is the place for you.

About The Opportunity

FASHIONPHILE is seeking a hands-on Senior UX Designer to own and execute the ongoing optimization of our digital customer experience across FASHIONPHILE and our mobile apps. This is a hands‑on, end‑to‑end individual contributor role. The right person is a builder: they scope the problem, find the data they need without waiting to be handed it, design the solution, get it shipped, and measure the result. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and shaping end-to-end UX for FASHIONPHILE websites and mobile apps including problem definition, information architecture, user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity design, engineering handoff, QA, and post-launch validation.

  • Creating comprehensive user flows for complex funnels, interactive prototypes for usability testing, and detailed engineering notes with conditional logic

  • Owning the ongoing optimization backlog for the Shopify storefront and app: identify friction, size the opportunity, propose and design tests, and drive them through to launch.

  • Sourcing, analyzing, and interpreting your own behavioral and performance data (Quantum Metric, GA4, Shopify Analytics) to prioritize work and demonstrate business impact.

  • Partnering directly with stakeholders/internal teams to scope and sequence work, resolve tradeoffs quickly, and keep delivery moving in a resource-constrained environment.

  • Designing within FASHIONPHILE's established brand guidelines and maintaining and extending the existing design system and component library for consistency across web and app.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) or relevant equivalent experience

  • 7+ years designing digital products, with at least 5 years focused on e-commerce or consumer-facing experiences, operating primarily as a hands‑on individual contributor

  • Hands‑on Shopify experience is required: designing and shipping within a Shopify storefront, including theme structure, PLP/PDP, cart, and checkout flows

  • Working familiarity with Shopify Liquid, Hydrogen, and extensibility

  • Portfolio of shipped, end‑to‑end work with measurable business results

  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and front‑end constraints

  • Self‑sufficiency with analytics and experience tooling such as Quantum Metric, GA4, Shopify Analytics, Hotjar, Contentsquare, or similar

  • Proven success with experimentation, usability testing, and A/B testing tied to business performance, plus advanced proficiency in Figma and modern prototyping tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to work within established brand guidelines and an existing design system.

  • Recommerce or marketplace experience with a two‑sided customer (i.e. designing for both the buying and the selling side of the same experience) - Preferred

  • Luxury recommerce, luxury retail, or fashion experience - Preferred

  • Experience designing native or hybrid mobile app experiences alongside web - Preferred

What We Offer
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage

  • FSA options for Medical, Dependent Care & Commuter Benefits

  • Paid Time off, Paid Sick Time, and Paid Holidays

  • 401(k) with generous match program

  • Free Life Insurance and AD&D

  • Long‑Term Disability Insurance

  • Employee Discount

Pay Scale: FASHIONPHILE reasonably expects the range to be $80K-$115K. The company prefers to hire in our Lehi, Utah location but is open to hiring in any payroll states. Offered compensation will vary based on (a) location; (b) individual candidate qualifications; and (c) individual candidate experience.
