Job description

About HoskBrew

At HoskBrew, we are a small, tight-knit team dedicated to the preservation, manufacturing, and enhancement of the retro video game scene. We specialize in classic hardware, reverse engineering, and component-level electronics. We are passionate about keeping gaming history alive for systems like Atari, Nintendo, Sega, and more. If you love classic gaming and have the technical chops to bring aging hardware back to life—or help us build brand new products for vintage systems—we want you on our team.

The Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and adaptable Hardware Technician to anchor our technical operations. In this role, you will be deeply involved in the physical engineering of our products. You will deconstruct vintage systems for duplication, construct physical prototypes, and assist in designing circuit boards. You will also serve as our primary repair specialist for classic consoles and accessories.

Please note: We are strictly a retro-focused company. We define "retro" as the PlayStation 2 generation and earlier. We do not service, support, or develop for modern game systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hardware Deconstruction & Duplication: Carefully disassemble classic game systems, cartridges, and accessories to prepare items for reverse engineering and duplication.
  • Precision Soldering & Prototyping: Construct physical prototypes of new and reproduced items. This requires highly complex, component-level soldering, frequently utilizing magnifiers and microscopes.
  • PCB Design & Development: Assist in the design and layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs) to reproduce existing retro hardware and help develop entirely new product lines.
  • Diagnostics & Repair: Identify faults, diagnose issues, and perform lasting repairs on classic game systems and their associated accessories.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Operate as a flexible member of a small business. You must be willing to pivot, pitch in, and handle tasks that may fall outside your initial scope of work to help the team succeed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Expert-Level Soldering: Absolute proficiency in complex soldering is mandatory. You must be comfortable working with tiny components under magnification.
  • Retro Gaming Passion: A deep, genuine enthusiasm for the retro gaming industry and an encyclopedic knowledge of classic systems (PS2 and earlier).
  • Collaborative Humility: You must be a team player who recognizes the limits of your own knowledge. We want someone who is comfortable saying "I don't know," asking for assistance, and independently researching solutions when faced with a new problem.
  • Adaptability: A flexible mindset and a willingness to help out wherever the company needs it on any given day.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: Competitive and commensurate with experience (to be discussed during the interview process).
  • Health Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
Equal Opportunity Employer

Hoskbrew is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or genetic information.

Reasonable accommodations are available upon request throughout the hiring process.
