Reproductive Rights advocates often work alongside legal experts, healthcare providers, policy analysts, and community organizers. This collaborative environment means that daily responsibilities can range from coordinating educational campaigns and supporting legal cases to engaging in policy research and community outreach. Working with diverse teams helps advocates stay informed on current legislation, medical guidelines, and public concerns, ensuring their advocacy is both effective and up-to-date. This multidisciplinary approach also provides opportunities for skill development and professional growth within the field.

To thrive in a reproductive rights advocacy role, you need a deep understanding of reproductive health policies, legal frameworks, and a relevant degree in public health, law, or social work. Familiarity with policy analysis tools, advocacy platforms, and data management systems is often required. Outstanding communication, coalition-building, and resilience are vital soft skills for engaging stakeholders and navigating sensitive discussions. These skills are crucial for driving policy change, supporting affected communities, and ensuring access to reproductive healthcare.

Full-time (Hybrid)

Location: Oakland, CA
Hiring Range: $121k-$132k annually
Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) in the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate in the U.S., spanning 47 counties in mid-California and Nevada. PPMM invests in communities by providing health care and education, and by expanding rights and access for all.
At PPMM, philanthropy isn't transactional, it's transformational. If you are passionate about reproductive freedom, skilled at cultivating major donor relationships, and motivated by making a lasting impact, we invite you to apply!
The Opportunity
As a Major Gifts Officer, you will play a central role in shaping and advancing PPMM's major gift program for both our 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations within your assigned region. You will manage and grow relationships with donors capable of giving $10,000-$100,000+, serving as a strategic partner, storyteller, and steward. This position offers:
  • Autonomy to build and manage donor relationships your way
  • Visibility and influence as a senior representative of PPMM
  • Collaboration with leadership, volunteers, and a seasoned Development Team
  • Mission-critical impact at a pivotal moment for reproductive rights

What You'll Do
  • Lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute regional fundraising strategies aligned with organizational goals and best practices in moves management.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of major donors with care, intention, and long-term vision.
  • Create individualized engagement and solicitation strategies that connect donor values to organizational priorities.
  • Represent PPMM to influential donors, community leaders, and public audiences as a senior fundraiser.
  • Partner with leadership and volunteers on meaningful donor engagement opportunities and solicitations.
  • Ensure exceptional stewardship, including timely acknowledgment, impact reporting, and recognition.
  • Track donor activity and progress using fundraising software and contribute to thoughtful goal-setting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Plan donor meetings and cultivation events with support from the Development Team.

What Makes This Role Distinct
• You will steward both C3 and C4 philanthropy, expanding your skill set and strategic exposure
• You'll have real ownership over a donor portfolio-not just tasks
• You'll work in a mission-driven environment where fundraising is deeply respected
• You'll help shape the future of reproductive healthcare access in our communities
What We're Looking For
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Fundraising experience, including success in individual and/or major gifts
  • Strong relationship-building skills with donors, volunteers, and community partners
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking abilities
  • Knowledge of professional fundraising practices and donor engagement strategies
  • Comfort managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases and CRM systems

Preferred:
  • Experience recruiting or managing fundraising volunteers
  • Background in complex or mission-driven organizations
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit
