Reporting to the director of the Master of Computer Science Program, the Graduate Assistant will mentor lower-level computer science courses, assist with department-related tasks assigned by the director of MSCSI, and assist with university-related tasks assigned by Charleston Southern University. The Graduate Assistant must abide by and uphold CSU University policies and core values.
The GA position is a part-time position for the Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 semesters. The position offers a $1,000 stipend per semester. The tuition waiver will cover the cost for one course per semester with free housing (if available), or two courses per semester without housing (does not include meal plan). GAs must be accepted into the MS in Computer Science program at Charleston Southern University before starting work. GAs are expected to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
Responsibilities (Work Performed):

• Mentor lower-level computer science courses (CSCI 235, CSCI 325, CSCI 315, CSCI 235, CSCI 330, and CSCI 415) primarily as a tutor.
• Assistant Network Administrator for the Charleston Southern University Computer Science Network following a major infrastructure upgrade. Plan, prepare, and deploy new resources such as web, database, and virtual machine servers to support the recently completed upgrade. Team with the Network Administrator to design and deploy network solutions such as student account provisioning and cybersecurity hardening.
• Assisting in department-related tasks assigned by the director of MSCSI.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Scripture

Jesus Christ
John 14:6 "Jesus said unto them, `I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.'" God made provision through Christ for the redemption of sinful humanity by His substitutionary atonement on the cross, and He alone is sufficient as Savior.
Salvation

Salvation involves God's gracious redemption of individuals and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior by repentance and faith.

Diversity
Genesis 1:27 "God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Because all people are made in God's divine image, they possess full dignity and are worthy of respect. Matthew 22:39 "'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" Jesus' command for us to love others as ourselves extends to all people. Revelation 7:9 "After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb . . ." Charleston Southern University defines diversity as people groups varying in ethnic makeup, cultural background, age, language, educational and professional experience, ability, veteran and/or socioeconomic status. Human Sexuality
Matthew 19:4-5 " . . . [God] . . . made them at the beginning 'male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'[.]" Sexuality is one of the ways the marriage covenant between a husband and a wife is sealed and expressed. Marriage is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards and the means for the procreation of the human race. All forms of sexual intimacy that occur outside the covenant of heterosexual marriage, even when consensual, are distortions of the holiness and beauty God intended for it. The promotion or practice of a homosexual lifestyle (including same-sex dating behaviors) is also contrary to the university's core values. The promotion of transgenderism fails to uphold the university's core values.
Education:
Deuteronomy 6:6-7a " . . . these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children . . ." Matthew 28:19-20 " . . . make disciples of all the nations . . . teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you . . ." Christianity is the faith of enlightenment and intelligence . . . All sound learning is, therefore, a part of our Christian heritage. The new birth opens all human faculties and creates a thirst for knowledge. Moreover, the cause of education in the Kingdom of Christ is co-ordinate with the causes of missions and general benevolence, and should receive along with these the liberal support of the churches. An adequate system of Christian education is necessary to a complete spiritual program for Christ's people.
Evangelism and Missions
Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." It is the privilege and duty of every Christian to share the Gospel of Christ personally and by all other methods in harmony with the Gospel.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate student in good standing in the MS of Computer Science Program. Prior to being recommended for an assistantship, an applicant must submit a degree study plan to his or her graduate director showing enrollment for a minimum of six (6) graduate credit hours per major term during the academic year; summer enrollment is only required if the GA wishes to continue work during that period. Some assistantship positions may require summer work.
He or she must be a proven problem solver, and strategic planner, have excellent oral and written communication skills, effective human relations, and leadership skills.
