Job description

Position Overview
The Junior Data Analyst supports data-driven decision-making by leveraging an enterprise data and analytics platform to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights for mission-critical operations in a highly regulated government environment. They partner with business and technical stakeholders to refine analytical requirements, ensure alignment with data governance standards, and translate complex datasets into clear reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
This role focuses on integrating data from multiple business systems, applying exploratory and basic predictive techniques, and validating results to monitor costs, usage, and customer experience. The analyst also helps optimize data pipelines and analytical workflows, contributes to reusable analytic components, and assists in evaluating and deploying new analytics and visualization tools across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Apply exploratory data analysis, statistical techniques, and basic predictive modeling to large, multi-source datasets to identify trends, correlations, and outliers that support operational and financial decisions.
  • Use SQL and similar query tools to extract, join, and aggregate data from enterprise data lakes and business systems, ensuring accurate filters, joins, and calculated fields for reports and dashboards.
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and recurring reports in common business intelligence (BI) tools to track performance, cost, usage, and customer satisfaction metrics with automated refresh and clear visual storytelling.
  • Implement data cleaning, transformation, and validation routines to improve data quality, reconcile conflicting records, and ensure conformance with established data governance and stewardship standards.
  • Collaborate with senior analysts, data engineers, and system owners to understand source system structures, optimize data models, and enhance data pipelines for analytics use in mission-critical environments.
  • Document analytical methodologies, data dictionaries, business rules, and recurring report logic to support transparency, reproducibility, and efficient onboarding of new team members and stakeholders.
  • Assist in evaluating, configuring, and integrating new analytics and visualization tools, including prototyping reusable templates, components, and query patterns for common business questions.
  • Provide user support and training for stakeholders on self-service analytics capabilities, including explaining metric definitions, data limitations, and best practices for interpreting dashboards and reports.

Required Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a quantitative, business, or technology-related field, or equivalent relevant experience; bachelors degree preferred for long-term progression into the standard Data Analyst role.
  • Typically 1-3 years of hands-on experience in data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence within enterprise or government environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SQL for querying, joining, and aggregating data across multiple tables and data sources.
  • Experience building reports or dashboards in at least one BI or reporting tool (such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or similar).
  • Ability to apply basic statistical concepts and exploratory data analysis techniques to assess trends, distributions, and anomalies.
  • Active Secret clearance
  • U.S. citizenship required to support a highly regulated government environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with defense or other highly regulated federal data environments and associated governance standards.
  • Familiarity with one or more major BI platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik) including use of calculated fields and parameters.
  • Exposure to Python or R for data wrangling, automation, or basic analytics beyond point-and-click tools.
  • Prior experience supporting mission-critical analytics use cases related to cost, usage, performance, or customer satisfaction in an enterprise setting.
