Job description

About Zero Carbon Systems
Zero Carbon Systems (ZCS) is a clean energy and direct air capture company on a mission to accelerate the transition to a zero carbon future. We are developing and deploying breakthrough technologies designed to reduce atmospheric CO2 at scale, addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
Backed by mission aligned investors and led by a team of passionate innovators, ZCS sits at the intersection of cutting edge science and real world impact. We are building a diverse, collaborative, and driven team of individuals who share our commitment to excellence, creativity, and the belief that the work we do today will shape the world of tomorrow.
If you are energized by meaningful work and want to be part of a company where your contributions directly advance the clean energy transition, we would love to hear from you.
Zero Carbon Systems (ZCS), LLC is seeking a Data Analyst to join a fast-growing, flexible team that's trying to address the most pressing issue of our time - climate change. This data analyst will work closely with our Lead Data Analyst to collect, filter, and interpret data from analytical equipment and benchtop test rigs. The analyst will routinely summarize and present data summaries to technical leadership to help drive design and scale-up of the ZCS technology platform.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Data Collection: Collaborate with senior scientists and engineers to isolate individual experiments from the data generated from ZCS analytical lab equipment, test rig, and pilot plants. Ensure data accuracy and completeness of both individual / one-off experiments and rigorous time series data.
  • Data Consolidation: Isolate and store all data for individual experiments in an easily retrievable form for later review and analysis.
  • Data Processing and Analysis: Perform data cleaning, manipulation, and statistical analysis to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in collected data. Use statistical analysis software, such as JMP, to elucidate processing trends and to identify anomalies that could indicate operating issues.
  • Visualization and Reporting: Create clear and informative data visualizations to allow for succinct interpretation of findings to a wide technical audience.
  • Presentation of Findings: Succinctly and effectively communicate data summaries to technical leadership and identify areas for process improvement based on data-driven insights.
  • Experimental Design: Assist in the design and implementation of experiments to build out required datasets in the most time/resource efficient manner possible.
  • Equipment Validation: Work with analytical and operations teams to perform statistical review of results, checking for bias, sources of variability and ensuring repeatability.
  • QA / QC: Work with analytical and operations teams to set up systems to ensure consistent, reliable performance.
  • Information Extraction: Help teams to draw actionable information from structured data (e.g. repeated batch experiments; spectral data from analytical tools).

Requirements Include:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Data Science with proven analytical experience
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large, complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as JMP or Minitab
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely for a broad audience.
  • Detail-oriented and organized approach to work, with a commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation.

Preferred Skills:
  • Hands-on experience in a lab or R&D setting operating analytical instruments or automated testing equipment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience with AVEVA PI System data management and acquisition.
  • Experienced in the automation of routine data management tasks.
  • Experience with programming languages such as R or Python.
