Urgently Hiring Pyrotechnic Engineer information

What is a pyrotechnic engineer?

Pyrotechnic Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and oversee the creation and safe use of fireworks, explosives, and other pyrotechnic devices. Their work involves applying principles of chemistry, physics, and engineering to create visually stunning and safe displays for entertainment, military, or industrial purposes. They are also responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and testing materials to minimize risks. Pyrotechnic Engineers often work closely with event organizers, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies to coordinate successful and safe pyrotechnic displays.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pyrotechnic engineer?

To thrive as a Pyrotechnic Engineer, you need a solid background in chemistry, materials science, and engineering principles, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and experience in energetic materials. Familiarity with simulation software, safety regulations, and certification in hazardous materials handling are crucial for this role. Strong problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and clear communication skills set exceptional candidates apart. These competencies are essential to ensure safe design, testing, and deployment of pyrotechnic devices while meeting strict regulatory and performance standards.

What are some common challenges faced by pyrotechnic engineers, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Pyrotechnic Engineers often face challenges related to stringent safety regulations, precise material handling, and working under tight deadlines for events or product launches. Effective communication and collaboration with safety officers, production teams, and clients are crucial to ensure compliance and flawless execution. Staying current with industry standards and participating in regular safety trainings can help address these challenges, while strong project management skills assist in meeting deadlines without compromising safety or quality.

What is the difference between Urgently Hiring Pyrotechnic Engineer vs Pyrotechnician?

AspectUrgently Hiring Pyrotechnic EngineerPyrotechnician
CredentialsEngineering degree, certifications in pyrotechnicsCertification in pyrotechnics, safety training
Work EnvironmentDesign, testing, and safety planning in controlled settingsSetup, handling, and firing of fireworks or special effects
Industry UsageFilm, entertainment, safety consultingFireworks displays, special effects for events

While both roles involve working with explosives and pyrotechnics, the Urgently Hiring Pyrotechnic Engineer focuses on design, safety protocols, and technical planning, often requiring an engineering background. In contrast, a Pyrotechnician primarily handles the setup and execution of fireworks displays or effects. The engineer's role is more analytical and safety-oriented, whereas the pyrotechnician is more hands-on with live effects.

Job description

Energetics Engineer — Aerospace | Metro Detroit, MI

$120,000–$150,000 + annual bonus + signing bonus | Relocation assistance available | Onsite

Design the devices that bring flight-critical systems to life. Our client — a privately-held, well-established aerospace propulsion manufacturer — is hiring an Energetics Engineer with deep expertise in pyrotechnic and energetic components: gas generators, initiators, and igniters.

What you'll do

  • Own energetic components across the full product life cycle — requirements, specifications, and verification from concept through qualification
  • Design and analyze components and propellants, and support their manufacturing
  • Plan and execute development and qualification testing, including data reduction and analysis
  • Prepare and present test plans, reports, and supporting documentation
  • Interpret government regulations, requirements, procedures, and safety standards for energetic devices

What you bring

  • 10+ years in development and qualification of energetic components
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline (Chemistry, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering; Project Management)
  • Working knowledge of requirements verification and validation (V&V)
  • Familiarity with ammunition and explosive certification processes
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with sharp attention to detail
  • Clear written communication and solid document-preparation skills
  • U.S. citizenship (required); ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance if needed — selected candidates may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Why this role

This is a stable, privately-held company with a long-tenure engineering culture — no defense-prime layoff cycles. You'll have real ownership of flight-critical energetic-device development from design through qualification, with strong compensation, a signing bonus, and paid relocation.

Our client is a drug-free workplace; new hires are subject to pre-employment drug testing. Our client is an equal opportunity employer — all qualified applicants will receive consideration regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or protected veteran status.
