Job description

Business Analysts are responsible for converting data into actionable business insights. They are analysis experts who leverage a variety of data platforms and analytical tools to provide timely, meaningful, and consumable information. They build deep contextual and domain knowledge, ensure data quality, and build scalable tools. They communicate findings with the most effective and influential methods.
Amazon is seeking a motivated, early-career Business Analyst with foundational technical skills and an eagerness to develop expertise in data analytics and business intelligence. The ideal candidate will draw upon analytical and problem-solving skills to deliver business insights and analytics. We look for candidates who are excellent communicators, collaborative, growth-minded, and curious. This role involves design and development of automated data pipelines, analytical modeling, and data visualization. You will contribute to maintaining and enhancing code using Python and SQL, with opportunities to learn additional languages with team support. This role has visibility into cross-functional business impact and promotes career progression within operational fulfillment.
Key job responsibilities
- Execute data management processes including accessing raw data feeds, building queries, writing code, organizing data, and designing reports that present status-at-a-glance visualization for business performance
- Retrieve and analyze large data sets using Excel, SQL, and other data management systems to design and implement reporting solutions that enable stakeholders to make effective decisions
- Take ownership of assigned reporting processes (typically 3-5 recurring reports) to ensure accuracy and timeliness, with support from senior analysts for complex data quality issues
- Build and maintain assigned KPIs following team standards and best practices, monitoring existing metrics and partnering with internal teams to identify process and system improvement opportunities
- Identify and propose improvements to customer experience and operational processes, implementing approved changes with team support
A day in the life
As a Business Analyst on the AIT Business Operations team, you'll start your day reviewing dashboards and reports that track the health of Amazon's inbound transportation network. You might spend the morning collaborating with operations partners to understand a new data request, then shift to building a query or updating a visualization in the afternoon. You'll join weekly team syncs where senior analysts provide guidance on your projects, and you'll have regular 1:1s with your manager to discuss your development. Some days you'll focus on automating a manual process; other days you'll present findings to stakeholders who use your analysis to make decisions about pricing, cost optimization, or shipper experience. Every day is a chance to learn something new - whether it's a SQL technique, a business domain, or an AWS tool.
About the team
Amazon Inbound Transportation (AIT) is responsible for optimizing cost-effective flow throughout Amazon's inbound network while providing Amazon with greater control, performance, and inbound visibility. The Business Operations (BizOps) team within AIT is responsible for pricing, cost, growth, speed, and profitability of the inbound business. Our customer is the shipper who utilizes AIT programs (vendors and sellers). Our objective is to execute on time, save shippers money, and offer distinctive features and services to all shippers regardless of size.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree, or Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations, engineering, analytics or related field
- 1+ years of Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables) experience
- 1+ years of business analyst, data analyst or similar role experience
- Knowledge of SQL
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience statistical modeling, or related analytic techniques
- Experience with reporting and Data Visualization tools such as Quick Sight / Tableau / Power BI or other BI packages
- Experience with operations/supply chain
- Knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling
- Knowledge of Python or R or other scripting language
- Experience formulating and solving predictive modeling, machine learning, forecasting or statistical modeling problems
