Job description

Be part of an amazing story

Macy’s is more than just a store. We’re a story. One that’s captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

Job Overview

As a Warehouse Colleague, you’ll do more than move merchandise—you’ll help create a seamless, customer-focused experience behind the scenes. Whether you’re receiving, storing, picking, packing, sorting, or shipping, your attention to detail and commitment to safety will ensure every item is handled with care and purpose.

We’re looking for individuals who bring both precision and heart to their work. In this hands-on role, you’ll help keep the warehouse clean, organized, and running smoothly, while also fostering a positive, respectful atmosphere where teammates feel supported and valued. Every task you complete contributes to on-time delivery and excellent service, making a real impact on our customers and your colleagues.

Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. All schedules contain weekend shifts as part of the requirements. Hours are dependent on business needs and colleague availability. Information regarding hours per week needed for benefit eligibility purposes can be found here.

What You Will Do

Receiving and Unloading: Load and unload cartons and merchandise from and to delivery trucks, conveyor systems, etc.

Sorting and Organizing: Lift, carry, push, and pull packages on a continuous and repetitive basis

Processing: Timely Complete all processing, receiving, and shipping activities in accordance with productivity standards

Technology: Accurately and efficiently input data using PCs, handheld computers, radio frequency equipment, or similar devices while mastering area-specific functions across various systems (including warehouse systems and proprietary systems).

Safety: Perform job functions in a safe manner and promptly report any accidents or safety hazards affecting safe operation to the safety committee.

Equipment: Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks and other equipment as needed.

Team Collaboration: Must be able to work collaboratively with other team members to achieve goals and maintain a positive work environment.  Must be able to understand and communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and People Leaders. Must be able to read and understand employment policies and safety rules/procedures in English.

Start your shift strong by wearing your name badge, following dress code, attending start-ups, knowing who’s supporting you, checking that your work area is ready, and staying informed on daily goals.

Prioritize the Customer by getting to your department quickly, working with speed and accuracy, handling merchandise with care, and packing each customer’s package thoughtfully and neatly.

Hospitality is a feeling - it starts with you. Greet coworkers with a genuine smile and a warm “hello” to create connection from the moment you see each other. Take time to start conversations, show interest, and build trust. Offer a helping hand to new teammates getting settled and support existing colleagues whenever you can. By showing up with kindness, care, and respect, you help create a workplace where everyone feels seen, valued, and included.

Finish Strong! Stay focused through the end of your shift by tidying your workstation, returning equipment to its proper place, replenishing supplies, and taking a moment to recognize coworkers who helped make the day a success.

Community: Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Who You Are

  • A flexible team player who will thrive in our fast-paced environment who can switch between multiple tasks, and can work various shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • No Education or Experience Required.
  • Flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays with regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Self-starter in adapting quickly to changing customer expectations and needs.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and handheld technology.
  • Must be able to:
    • Understand and communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and supervisors
    • Read and understand employment policies and safety rules/procedures in English

Essential Physical Requirements You Will Perform

  • Prolonged periods (up to 12 hours) of standing/walking around the facility or department (excluding breaks).

  • Lifting and moving items weighing up to 50-75lbs.
  • Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Ability to hear and see safety/emergency alarms and Power Industrial Truck (PIT) warning devices to ensure safety while on the warehouse floor.

Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility except in locations governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll.
