Job description

Job Summary

The CDL Truck Driver supports the mission of Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries by operating commercial and standard vehicles to transport materials, merchandise, donations, trash, and other items to and from specified destinations. This position completes scheduled pick-ups and deliveries, loads and off-loads merchandise and production materials, maintains vehicle cleanliness and inspection records, and operates vehicles and equipment in a safe and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities


The following duties are representative of the essential functions of this position. Additional duties may be assigned as operational needs require.

Route Operations & Transportation

  • Selects routing for retail center service and collection of items.
  • Completes scheduled pick-ups daily.
  • Transports production, merchandise, donations, trash, mail, company vehicles, donation trailers, and other materials as assigned.
  • Picks up and drops off donation trailers as assigned.
  • Performs other transportation-related duties, including picking up mail, taking company vehicles in for service, and assisting with outlet duties as needed.

Loading, Off-Loading & Material Handling

  • Loads and off-loads production and merchandise for stores, plant, and vendors.
  • Collects and transports trash as assigned.
  • Demonstrates proper use of dollies, forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, carts, and other tools as needed.
  • Uses appropriate safety techniques for lifting, carrying, loading, off-loading, and transporting goods.

Vehicle Safety & Inspection

  • Operates vehicles in a safe manner and in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Completes daily vehicle inspection reports in SAMSARA.
  • Maintains cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
  • Reports vehicle maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Communication & Store Support

  • Communicates with Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, plant staff, vendors, and supervisors regarding load drop-off, receipt, pick-up, and transportation needs.
  • Provides professional and courteous service when interacting with team members, vendors, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Supports store, plant, transportation, and outlet operations as assigned.

Organizational Support

  • Promotes the mission, values, goals, and objectives of Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries.
  • Follows organizational policies, safety procedures, transportation requirements, and supervisor instructions.
  • Maintains professionalism and accountability in all aspects of work.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties


This position does not directly supervise employees. The CDL Truck Driver may provide work direction, safety guidance, or task-related support to team members while completing assigned transportation duties.

Education and/or Experience


Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One to three months of related driving, transportation, warehouse, route service, or material handling experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver License required.
  • Forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, or related material-handling equipment experience preferred.

  • Ability to operate commercial and standard vehicles safely and professionally.
  • Ability to complete scheduled pick-ups, deliveries, and route assignments accurately and timely.
  • Ability to complete vehicle inspection reports and required transportation documentation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, diagrams, and schedules.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and complete basic forms or reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, clients, store leadership, vendors, supervisors, and team members.
