What are UPS Feeder Drivers?

UPS Feeder Drivers are professional truck drivers responsible for transporting trailers filled with packages between UPS distribution centers, known as hubs. Unlike package delivery drivers, they do not deliver directly to customers’ homes or businesses. Instead, they operate tractor-trailers on scheduled routes, often driving long distances and working overnight or early morning hours. Feeder Drivers play a crucial role in the UPS logistics network by ensuring that shipments move efficiently between processing facilities. This position typically requires a commercial driver's license (CDL) and a strong focus on safety and punctuality.

How much do local UPS feeder drivers make?

Local UPS feeder drivers typically earn between $60,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and union agreements. They often work full-time schedules with benefits and may receive overtime pay for additional hours worked.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a UPS Feeder Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a UPS Feeder Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, knowledge of DOT regulations, and experience operating tractor-trailers. Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs), route navigation systems, and UPS-specific safety protocols is typically required. Reliability, attention to detail, and strong time management skills help drivers excel in meeting schedules and maintaining safety. These skills ensure timely, safe transportation of goods and compliance with regulatory standards, which is critical for UPS operations.

Is UPS really paying $49 an hour?

UPS feeder drivers typically earn between $20 and $30 per hour, depending on experience and location, with some overtime opportunities increasing pay. The $49 per hour figure is higher than standard rates and may reflect overtime, bonuses, or specific circumstances not common for all drivers.

They are responsible for safely driving, inspecting vehicles, and ensuring timely delivery of shipments, often working early morning or overnight shifts. The role requires a commercial driver's license (CDL) and knowledge of safety procedures and route navigation.
