Position OverviewHolton-Arms School is seeking a collaborative, adaptable, and passionate French Teacher to join our dynamic World Languages Department for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a full-time, 10-month faculty position based primarily in the Middle School. The teacher will teach a full-time French course load, primarily in the Middle School, and will also teach one section of Upper School French.
The World Languages Department provides students with opportunities to develop their intercultural competence by deepening their language proficiency and global awareness. Students explore diverse cultures and perspectives as part of a supportive and engaging community, learn to be strong collaborators in shared creative work, and develop self-directed learning skills.
Holton-Arms offers a robust World Languages program in Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish. This position is based in the Middle School, and the teacher will primarily teach French courses in the Middle School while contributing fully to the life of the Middle School community. Depending on student enrollment, scheduling, and departmental needs from year to year, the teaching assignment may also include one section of Upper School French. The ideal candidate will therefore be enthusiastic about teaching Middle School students and comfortable working with Upper School students when needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeach a full-time French course load, primarily in the Middle School, with one Upper School French section as determined by enrollment, scheduling, and departmental needs.
Design and facilitate engaging, student-centered learning experiences that develop students’ French language proficiency, intercultural competence, and confidence as language learners
Communicate regularly and effectively with students and parents
Integrate educational technology thoughtfully and effectively into the curriculum
Work collaboratively with colleagues in the World Languages Department, Middle School faculty and administrators, and Upper School colleagues as appropriate
Provide additional support to students outside of class time, as needed, during the school day
Serve as a Middle School advisor, facilitating regular meetings that promote student well-being, belonging, and personal growth
Attend regular faculty, departmental, divisional, and professional development meetings
Participate in supervisory and extracurricular duties, including chaperoning events, monitoring study halls and common areas, and supporting parent and community events
Contribute actively to the Middle School community through advisory, clubs, student programming, or other opportunities
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, French, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred
Experience teaching French at the Middle School level; experience teaching French at the Upper School level is a plus
Ability and willingness to teach students across Middle and Upper School grade levels, as departmental needs require
Experience working in an independent school and/or all-girls educational environment is preferred
Understanding of, or interest in developing expertise in, competency-based teaching and learning
Experience incorporating Social and Emotional Learning, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, and Global Competencies into curriculum and classroom practice
Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment for students with a range of language-learning experiences and proficiency levels
Commitment to collaboration and continued professional learning
Coaching experience is desired. Priority Varsity coaching opportunities include Soccer and Lacrosse.
The average salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000, with the exact salary determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Early career teachers are initially compensated less than the listed salary range, and highly experienced teachers are compensated more than the listed salary range. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorships, and significant commitments outside of the classroom.
