Job description

Job Description $24.29-$26.17 starting rate, per hour, DOE Perform a variety of tasks in the operation, maintenance and improvement of the airport, roads, structures, and related facilities. Will operate light, medium, and heavy construction equipment, snow plows, sweepers, spreaders, and trucks. Examples of Duties Operate a variety of airport systems and maintenance equipment, including trucks, front-end loaders, graders, snow plows, fork lifts, sweepers, spreaders, HVAC equipment, boilers and various other equipment

Repair runway/taxiway and associated systems, roads, bridges, culverts, docks, and other airport facilities such as building equipment and signs. May provide assistance to Airport Technician/ARFF personnel in general and skilled maintenance and repairs to buildings and systems that may involve painting, sand blasting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general labor. Perform Airport beautification tasks involving gardening, garbage control, etc.

Perform snow/ice removal and control operations using snow/ice removal and control equipment and materials. Conducts movement area safety checks. Operate hand tools and power tools including saws, jack hammers, pumps, brush cutters, generators, compressors, welders, and various other equipment.

Perform minor equipment repairs and maintenance. May provide assistance to Airport Equipment Mechanics on an as needed basis. May respond in a support role to emergencies at the airport involving disabled aircraft or other situations involving coordinating radio or telephone calls or shuttling equipment.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES: Provide instruction to other employees of this or a similar job classification in all aspects of procedure and technique relating to the duties required by this job description unless such instruction requires a specialized certification which the employee doing the training does not have. Fill-in for Deckhand in case of an emergency. Perform other related duties as directed by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications Requires ability to operate and assist in the routine maintenance of the Airport, airport equipment and vehicles in all types of weather; to perform all assigned manual labor tasks, both skilled and unskilled, under rigorous conditions; physical stamina and endurance; willingness to cooperate with others and perform the various job related duties as assigned; ability to follow oral and written directions; willingness to apply himself/herself; ability to learn and keep current on airport geography, facilities, systems and procedures; ability and desire to be a team player and cooperate with others; and experience in facility and equipment maintenance and equipment operation. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Must be able to hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, climbing on stools and ladders, and routinely lift and carry items and boxes up to fifty (50) pounds. Ability of operate hand tools, power tools and various other equipment.

Ability to operate trucks, front-end loaders, graders, snow plows, forklifts, sweepers, spreaders, HVAC equipment and boilers once training is complete on the necessary equipment. Requirements LICENSES: Valid State of Alaska driver's license with an acceptable driving record Current CPR card EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Any combination of related education and/or related experience will be considered if the candidate possesses the demonstrated ability.
