Position Summary
The Biology Department of Valencia Campus is acceptingapplications for an Assistant Professor ofChemistry at UNM Valencia Branch Campus position, which is a full-time,9-month, tenure-track position. The position begins August 17, 2026.
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in ruralValencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-yearbranch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With anemphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational andtechnical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens ofValencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a studentbody of approximately 2,300 each semester.
Salary: Base salary for nine-month faculty positionis $57,000. Summer teaching is possibleand optional with additional compensation. An excellent package of benefits is provided.
Summaryof duties and responsibilities: Provide 12 credit hours of classroom instructionduring each of fall and spring semesters. Responsibilities include maintaining attendance, scholastic, and studentrecords, as well as posting and maintaining office hours as per UNM ValenciaCampus policy, some of which may occur in the Learning Commons. Also, there isexpected participation in college committees, curriculum developmentinitiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related toteaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, andother areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. Responsibilities may include participation inUndergraduate Research initiatives related to current grant awards (asapplicable).
SpecialInstructions to Applicants: If selected for an interview, applicant must beprepared to present 1) official transcripts, 2) 2 letters of recommendation and3) a teaching demonstration (subject matter to be announced).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in chemistry or in a closely related field.
  • At least two years of experience teaching at a post-secondary institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) in Chemistry or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Evidence of commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
  • More than one year experience teaching at a 2-year community college.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses.
  • Experience teaching in a second STEM field such as physics, geology, or biology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of current teaching methodologies in active learning and course-based undergraduate research experiences.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
