GREAT Work Environment, Paid Time Off, and a 20% Staff Discount! This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday with a combination of morning and mid-morning hours and the pay is $17.00 per hour.
POSITION SUMMARY
Customer Service at People's Food Co-op is our primary focus! A Lead Clerk in our Grocery Department will assist with product ordering, production task list preparation, assistance in inventory control and record keeping, in addition to all the duties of the clerks and production workers. The Lead Clerk assists with maintenance, training, sales, ordering, receiving, preparation, stocking and display of all products in the department. The Lead Clerk assists with the daily operations of the department including training new staff, prioritization of tasks and delegation of tasks.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Communicate with department manager about daily activities, needs and challenges
  • Report performance issues to department manager in a way that is immediate, respectful and consistent
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff to create a positive work environment
  • Assist department manager with ordering, receiving, and pricing of products
  • Be able to correct errors and troubleshoot potential problems within the department
  • Assist in training department staff
  • Ensure all department staff are aware of any changes in policies and procedures for the department
  • Ensure department staff promptly and courteously answer phones and handle requests in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of products and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards
  • Ensure department cases and prep areas are clean
  • Receive product deliveries; ensuring order and invoice are accurate and ensure product quality
  • Prepare case and other meat department items as needed
  • Maintain back stock areas according to department standards
  • Demonstrate full awareness of current promotional events for the department
  • Comply with and reinforce all food safety, sanitation and safety regulations/guidelines/procedures and programs according to company, local, state, and federal health code regulations; identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
  • Effectively communicate with customers and respond to questions and requests in a timely manner.
  • Greet customers in a genuine and friendly manner throughout the store and assist them by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items and helping them to retrieve out of reach items.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Required frequently: standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending and reaching. Also cutting, using a knife or box cutter.
  • Required occasionally: using the baler, trash compactor
