Minimum Salary:$55,413.00/Annually

License and Certification Qualifications: None required.
Education Qualifications: Associate's degree in related field required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
Experience Qualifications: Three to five years of UNIX experience required. AIX experience preferred.
Skills Qualifications: Experience in designing, implementing, and supporting virtualization for application delivery on a UNIX platform; comprehensive understanding of optimizing server workload and security; ability to support and maintain disaster recovery for supported systems; high degree of logical reasoning and attention to detail; ability to work well and communicate with others in an effective manner; ability to analyze and solve problems; ability to translate user needs and problems into creative solutions; and ability to oversee projects with minimal guidance.
Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for providing technical support, maintenance, high availability, monitoring, daily operations, and disaster recovery for the enterprise UNIX platform.
1. Recommend, design, develop, and implement software and hardware solutions.
a. Design and support LPAR (Logical Partition) configuration in a UNIX platform.
b. Provide operating system technical and break/fix level support.
c. Troubleshoot hardware and cabling issues.
d. Install and upgrade application software running on the UNIX platform.
2. Perform installation, configuration, tuning, security, backup, recovery, and upgrades of the UNIX platform.
a. Apply patches to the UNIX servers at various technology and service pack levels.
b. Complete Network Installation Manager (NIM) installation and setup NIM servers while defining NIM clients on NIM master server and defining resources.
c. Analyze system monitor (nmon) data for servers with slow performance.
d. Debug and troubleshoot network, performance, and software issues.
3. Responsible for VIO, microcode, and firmware upgrades.
a. Perform firmware upgrades at the system level and both Ethernet and fiber card levels on UNIX servers.
b. Setup and manage VIO servers, partitions, and client configurations.
4. Provide user/intra-departmental relations.
a. Maintain contact with users and school-based technical staff to remain familiar with needs.
b. Work well with non-technical staff members in developmental as well as crisis situations as assigned.
5. Maintain a high degree of technical competence in UNIX system administration.
a. Utilize vendor supplied technical manuals.
b. Maintain a working knowledge of software/utilities and hardware tools pertinent to position functions.
6. Manage projects in the department and ensure deadlines are met.
a. Provide mentoring opportunities to the UNIX support team.
b. Provide guidance to UNIX support team to help meet the goals of the Information Management and Technology Division and the district.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
