Position Summary
DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for design, maintenance, and advanced support of the York College campus wide network and its related systems including all telecommunications. This role proactively collaborates with other LTS staff to design and monitor and wired and wireless networks and their components including firewalls and access control. The position also provides technical leadership, first point of emergency support, and ensures a highly reliable and secure network infrastructure that supports both academic and administrative operations.

A reliable and secure networking infrastructure to support all academic and administrative technology related functions
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with LTS staff members to identify and address problems relating to the campus network 20%
  • Provide advanced support and design of the network access control system 10%
  • Architect, configure, monitor, and maintain the wired and wireless network system, including firewalls 30%
  • Perform network equipment infrastructure inventory, support, administration and upgrades 15%
  • Design and maintain routing protocols on core switches and Internet routers 10%
  • Perform system administration and account management on network support servers 10%
  • Manage network student workers 5%

Experience and Education Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (i.e., Computer Science, Engineering, MIS) or equivalent experience required
  • At least six years of experience supporting networking and telecommunications infrastructures including wired and wireless networks
  • At least six years of experience with mobile devices and operating systems, including Unix/Linux, Windows and macOS
  • At least six years of experience administeringnetwork access control systems
  • At least four years of experience administering firewalls and VPNs
  • At least four years of experience with dedicated network devices such as gaming systems and other Internet appliances

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of operating systems, network/connectivity principles, file server technologies and computing environments including telecommunications systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex network problems
  • Strong understanding of security principles as they apply to deploying and maintaining business-critical network infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of campus network architecture and design
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
