Job description

Overview
Who we are
Collaborative. Respectful. A place to dream and do. These are just a few words that describe what life is like at Toyota. As one of the world's most admired brands, Toyota is growing and leading the future of mobility through innovative, high-quality solutions designed to enhance lives and delight those we serve. We're looking for talented team members who want to Dream. Do. Grow. with us.
To save time applying, Toyota does not offer sponsorship of job applicants for employment-based visas or any other work authorization for this position at this time.
Who we're looking for
Toyota is looking for team members who are passionate about technology and interested in joining a collaborative and highly motivated team as a Principal Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to own the vision, roadmap, and evolution of Toyota's Linux/Unix platform, which supports Tier-0 and Tier-1 business systems, automation frameworks, data services, and AI workloads. This role ensures the platform strategy is secure, scalable, automation-first, and aligned to business, security, and AI priorities.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the person in this role will join the Cloud Engineering & Software Development Support team to build and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure and systems.
What you'll be doing
  • Own and maintain a multi-horizon Linux/Unix platform roadmap aligned to business, security, operational resilience, and AI priorities
  • Anticipate future demand, lifecycle events, platform risks, and emerging technology needs to ensure proactive planning rather than reactive support
  • Drive platform standardization through infrastructure-as-code, hardened baselines, standard images, and self-service operational capabilities
  • Partner across infrastructure, application, security, and risk teams to improve platform stability, recovery readiness, observability, and compliance
  • Reduce operational toil and fragmented patterns by advancing automation-first platform operations and scalable service delivery models
  • Enable secure adoption of AI/ML and data workloads by evolving Linux platform capabilities to support performance, governance, and intelligent operations
  • Translate platform strategy into measurable outcomes, milestones, and investment priorities, and communicate progress clearly to stakeholders
  • Identify and consolidate overlapping OS platform responsibilities (e.g., hardening, lifecycle management, automation, observability) to increase leverage and reduce duplicated effort

What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or at least 7 to 10 years of professional experience
  • Experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, Platform Lead, or similar role supporting enterprise infrastructure or platform services
  • Strong experience administering or leading enterprise Linux/Unix platforms supporting critical production workloads
  • Experience delivering automation, infrastructure-as-code, standardization, or self-service platform initiatives in large-scale environments
  • Experience presenting technical strategy, roadmap direction, and delivery priorities to both technical and executive stakeholders

Added bonus if you have
  • Experience supporting AI/ML, data platforms, or other advanced compute workloads in enterprise environments
  • Experience with observability, AIOps, anomaly detection, predictive alerting, or automated remediation practices
  • Experience in security-focused, regulated, or audit-driven environments
  • Experience developing and executing multi-year technology roadmaps for shared infrastructure platforms

What we'll bring
During your interview process, our team can fill you in on all the details of our industry-leading benefits and career development opportunities. A few highlights include:
  • A work environment built on teamwork, flexibility and respect
  • Professional growth and development programs to help advance your career, as well as tuition reimbursement
  • Team Member Vehicle Purchase Discount
  • Toyota Team Member Lease Vehicle Program (if applicable)
  • Comprehensive health care and wellness plans for your entire family
  • Toyota 401(k) Savings Plan featuring a company match, as well as an annual retirement contribution from Toyota regardless of whether you contribute
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • Referral services related to prenatal services, adoption, childcare, schools and more
  • Tax Advantaged Accounts (Health Savings Account, Health Care FSA, Dependent Care FSA)
  • Relocation assistance (if applicable)

Belonging at Toyota
Our success begins and ends with our people. We embrace all perspectives and value unique human experiences. Respect for all is our North Star. Toyota is proud to have 10+ different Business Partnering Groups across 100 different North American chapter locations that support team members' efforts to dream, do and grow without questioning that they belong.
