Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Distribution/Materials Handler position is to receive and verify all incoming mail, packages, supplies, and other items and ensure prompt and accurate delivery of said items from the mailroom and receiving areas to the appropriate departments and/or individuals within the University Hospital community. As necessary, transports mail, packages, and passengers in University Hospital vehicles. Ensures accountability is maintained throughout these activities.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do   

  • Receives, verifies, and signs for all incoming supplies ordered by the University Hospital.
  • Delivers all supplies received in an expeditious manner and maintains accountability and proof of said deliveries.
  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of storeroom orders and prepares packages for outgoing shipments and returns to vendors.
  • Picks up and delivers interoffice, incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Picks up mail from the Post Office and delivers mail to the Post Office.
  • Signs for insured and registered letters and packages.
  • Maintains a log of hand deliveries, certified, registered and special delivery correspondence to appropriate personnel.
  • As necessary, transports documents to and from official University Hospital business functions.
  • Drives appropriate University Hospital vehicles to distribute mail, packages, supplies and other items.
  • Develops a working knowledge of all equipment utilized in the automation of the mail, receiving and Storeroom functions.
  • Serves as a liaison between Materials Management and internal campus locations.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma/GED Certification is preferred.
  • Six (6) months of clerical experience involving the handling and/or delivery of mail, packages, supplies, or other items is preferred.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is TS/1375: Probationary Rate: $20.10 - Job Rate: $20.60 - Two (2) Year Rate: $21.22 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
