Job description

The Opportunity:
The Salesforce Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable solutions on the Salesforce platform to meet business needs. This role combines the deep technical expertise of a Salesforce developer with the strategic vision of an architect ensuring that Salesforce ecosystems are optimized for performance, maintainability, security, and scalability.
The individual will work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and other IT teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions while maintaining adherence to Salesforce best practices.
Day to day responsibilities:
  • Architecture & Solution Design
    • Design scalable, secure, and high-performing Salesforce solutions that align with business objectives.
    • Translate complex business requirements into architectural blueprints, data models, and system integrations.
    • Ensure solutions comply with Salesforce platform limits, security requirements, and best practices.
    • Evaluate emerging Salesforce features and recommend adoption where they add value.
  • Development & Customization
    • Build and customize Salesforce applications using Apex, Visualforce, Lightning Web Components (LWC), workflows, process builders, and flows.
    • Develop and maintain custom objects, fields, page layouts, record types, and validation rules.
    • Implement integrations with third-party systems via APIs, middleware, and web services.
    • Maintain integrations and processes related to Salesforce connections. These connections will include, but not be limited to, financial software such as Business Central for Accounting and Powerfaids for Financial Aid, along with Paycom for our human resource information system.
  • Collaboration & Support
    • Partner with Salesforce Administrators and business process owners to deliver solutions that enhance user experience and productivity.
    • Work closely with the Director of Enterprise Applications to ensure application stability, integration alignment, and strategic fit.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and admins.
    • Collaborate with analytics teams to enable enterprise reporting and dashboards.
  • Testing & Deployment
    • Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing.
    • Manage deployments using version control tools and CI/CD processes.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve Salesforce-related technical issues efficiently.
  • Governance & Documentation
    • Maintain technical documentation for customizations, integrations, and architecture decisions.
    • Support Salesforce governance frameworks to ensure consistent coding standards and platform usage.
    • Ensure compliance with data protection, privacy regulations, and security policies.

Do you have the skills?
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of Salesforce development experience, including Apex, Visualforce, SOQL, and Lightning Web Components.
  • 2+ years in a Salesforce architect or lead developer capacity preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and other core modules.
  • Proven experience designing complex Salesforce integrations using API and middleware tools (e.g., Mulesoft, Jitterbit, Boomi).
  • Certifications (Preferred)
    • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I & II.
    • Salesforce Certified Application Architect and/or System Architect.
    • Salesforce Certified Integration Architect.
    • Salesforce Certified Administrator.
  • Skills & Competencies
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
    • Strong understanding of Salesforce security model, data modeling, and governor limits.

Location: Pineland Farms, New Gloucester, Maine
Just a half hour from Portland, Unity Environmental University Headquarters, Unity Environmental University Enterprise Education, Unity at Pineland, and the School of Environmental Business & Sustainable Ventures are based at the Pineland Farms campus. The facilities are within easy access to one of the fastest-growing cities for startups in the country.
Work Schedule:
Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and can include days, evenings, weekends. Working extended hours may be required as needed and Unity Environmental University employees must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling their responsibilities while meeting the institution's needs.
Although at Unity Environmental University Enterprise employees are generally scheduled to work at their base location, there are times when travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any Unity Environmental University location.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of either hand for repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping, and turning, and fine manipulation is required as is the ability to use the telephone for internal and external communications.
