JOB SUMMARY
The Sports Operations & Concessions Asst. plays a dual role supporting both athletic programming and concessions at Pelican Park. This position is responsible for accurate game scorekeeping, timekeeping, and player participation tracking while also performing quality concessions operations, including customer service, food service, and cash handling. The role ensures a safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for all participants, spectators, and guests, contributing to the overall mission of the Parks and Recreation Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Athletics & Scorekeeping
• Arrive early to prepare scorebooks, substitution sheets, and game materials.
• Record team rosters, player names, and jersey numbers.
• Maintain accurate game documentation: running score, fouls, points, possession arrow, and other required statistics.
• Operate scoreboard and game clock equipment.
• Communicate with referees, coaches, and site staff regarding game flow, fouls, and score accuracy.
• Track player participation to meet youth minimum playtime requirements.
• Submit completed scorebooks and documentation at the end of each game.
Concessions & Guest Services
• Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Take and process customer orders for food, beverages, and merchandise.
• Prepare and serve menu items following food safety and quality standards.
• Handle cash and operate POS systems accurately.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary concessions environment.
• Restock inventory and ensure product availability throughout events.
• Set up and break down concession areas before and after events.
• Address customer concerns professionally and resolve issues efficiently.
Cross Departmental Expectations
• Provide exceptional customer service across all recreation environments.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, coaches, officials, and patrons.
• Uphold safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all district policies.
• Support event operations as needed, including large tournaments, special events, or peak traffic days.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum age: 16 years (18+ preferred for adult leagues and cash-handling duties).
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in recreation, sports, concessions, food service, or customer service preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to operate scoreboards, mobile apps, and basic POS systems.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS (with or without accommodation)
• Work performed at indoor/outdoor recreation facilities, including concessions areas and gymnasiums.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, and concentrate for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
• May include exposure to varying weather conditions and fast-paced environments.
