What is a Unity developer?

Unity Developers are professionals who use the Unity game engine to create interactive experiences, such as video games, simulations, and virtual or augmented reality applications. They write code, often in C#, to bring game mechanics, graphics, and user interfaces to life. Unity Developers collaborate with designers, artists, and other team members to build and optimize applications for various platforms, including mobile devices, consoles, and PCs. Their role involves both technical programming and creative problem-solving to ensure high-quality, engaging user experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Unity developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Unity Developer, you need strong proficiency in C# programming, a solid understanding of game development principles, and experience with the Unity engine, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with source control systems (like Git), versioning tools, and Unity-specific features such as the Asset Store and Unity Analytics is typically required. Creativity, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help developers collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and address complex challenges. These abilities are crucial for delivering polished, high-performing interactive experiences and meeting project goals in a competitive industry.

Job description

Overview

Seeking an experienced Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) Developer to provide Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) support to U.S. Department of Defense programs. The selected candidate will design, develop, integrate, and sustain AFSIM-based capabilities while applying secure software lifecycle practices validated by an active CSSLP certification in support of DoD 8140/8570 requirements.

What will you do?

Ā· Design, develop, and integrate AFSIM models, components, and scenarios to support analysis of engagement-, mission-, and campaign-level concepts for government customers.

Ā· Implement secure software lifecycle practices (requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance) consistent with CSSLP domains and DoD cybersecurity policies.

Ā· Develop and maintain C++-based AFSIM plug-ins, simulation entities, behaviors, and interfaces to external tools and data sources.

Ā· Apply scripting (e.g., AFSIM’s script environment, Python/Lua where appropriate) to configure scenarios, behaviors, and batch runs for government analysis tasks.

Ā· Conduct code reviews, static analysis, and vulnerability remediation to ensure compliance with secure coding standards and program security requirements.

Ā· Support configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation for AFSIM capabilities delivered under government contracts.

Ā· Collaborate with government engineers, analysts, and other contractors to capture requirements, refine use cases, and translate them into verified, validated simulation capabilities.

Ā· Prepare and deliver technical documentation, test reports, user guides, and briefing materials in accordance with contract deliverable requirements (CDRLs).

Ā· Provide technical input to proposals, estimates, and design reviews for current and future MS&A task orders.

Do you have what it takes?

Ā· Active Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) certification recognized under DoD 8140/8570.

Ā· Experience applying secure coding practices, vulnerability mitigation, and software assurance concepts across the software development lifecycle.

Ā· Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity and risk management processes (e.g., RMF, DoDD 8140/8570 role-based certification requirements).

Ā· Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; current active Secret or higher strongly preferred.

Desired Qualifications

Ā· Active Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Ā· Experience supporting Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), or other acquisition and S&T organizations in the Dayton/Beavercreek area.

Ā· Experience with MS&A of air, space, or multi-domain operations, electronic warfare, or command and control systems.

Ā· Experience with Python or other scripting languages for data processing, automation, and tool integration.

Ā· Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, Git-based workflows, and modern CI/CD tools used in DoD environments.

Ā· Prior experience working as a government contractor on cost-type or CPFF contracts, including adherence to CDRLs and program processes.

Work Environment and Travel
