Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Health Center Director, the Patient Registration Clerk performs patient registration and scheduling functions while providing professional, courteous, and confidential customer service. This position assists patients with completing required paperwork and understanding clinic procedures, answers and directs telephone calls, and serves as a liaison between patients, teammates, and clinical staff.

The Patient Registration Clerk supports the efficient flow of patients through the health center and assists trained staff as needed. The position requires initiative, sound judgment, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to promote effective use of clinic resources and provide a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Control the flow of patients in and out of the clinic.
  • Perform patient registration functions, including insurance verification and updating demographic and emergency contact information.
  • Serve as a receptionist and liaison between patients, teammates, and staff.
  • Review patient-related forms for accuracy and completeness and assist patients with completing required information.
  • Schedule patient appointments, record appointment information, and effectively communicate appointment details to patients.
  • Maintain accurate patient files and databases.
  • Measure and monitor key metrics related to advanced access.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional work environment.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls appropriately.
  • Assist trained staff as needed to support clinic operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in an office setting; medical office experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and health insurance.
  • Basic knowledge of health insurance programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, preferred.
  • Strong oral, written, and telephone communication skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and with varying needs.
  • Typing speed of 40 words per minute preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
