Overview

Under general direction, performs a variety of maintenance and plant operations duties at Providence Hospital and Medical Centers as needed.
This position is located Henry Ford Providence Hospital- Novi, MI.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to the organization's core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process.
  • Assembles, installs, adjusts, repairs, and maintains complex or specialized machinery, equipment, and automated systems, such as emergency generator, steam and hot water boilers, microprocessor-based energy management system, compressors, filters, fans and fan coils, pumps, sterilizers, patient safety bars and rails, metal desks and cabinets, operating tables, and wheelchairs.
  • Inspects equipment and machinery in operation to ensure proper functioning, or to locate causes of trouble. Reads gauges on equipment or test instruments to determine if temperatures, pressures, electrical current, and other measures are within normal operating range.
  • Assembles, installs, maintains, and makes standard repairs to complex machinery and equipment. Repairs items such as, doors, intercom systems, autoclaves, electric beds, faucets, pumps, gauges, and electrical cords measuring instruments using hand and power tools.
  • Completes regularly scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and performs scheduled preventive maintenance on machines and equipment including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.
  • Repairs and maintains a variety of plumbing equipment and fixtures, such as valves, faucets, toilets, basins, garbage disposals, water tanks.
  • Performs unscheduled repair and maintenance tasks, such as plastering small holes in walls, replacing broken floor and ceiling tiles, adjusting door closers, lettering signs, hanging pictures.
  • Installs, removes and adjusts patient TV sets. Repairs cables, remote controls and nurses call cords.
  • Assist skilled trades personnel as assigned.
  • Performs other non-routine duties such as, snow removal, spreading salt on hospital driveways, entrances, walkways, and general housekeeping/cleaning functions.
  • Performs all other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs.

Qualifications
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent -required.

  • License/Certification:

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License -required.
  • On-the-job training in electromechanical repair and maintenance and plant operations, preferably in a healthcare facility environment required.

Experience:
  • Four years related experience preferably in a healthcare facility environment -required.

  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills consistent with mission and values.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
