Job description

FUNCTIONAL ROLE
The General Labor position supports the metal fabrication team by performing a variety of tasks. The role includes assisting fabricators, preparing surfaces, transporting materials, cleaning, and other general shop duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Assist fabricators with material handling, positioning, and fitting.
  • Perform sanding, grinding, and cleaning of metal surfaces to prepare for fabrication and painting.
  • Apply paint to metal stocks using brushes or other tools.
  • Carry and organize materials, ensuring the shop is well-stocked and orderly.
  • Operate basic hand tools and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the shop area, including sweeping, scrubbing, and removal of debris.
  • Support the upkeep of restrooms and break areas by performing regular cleaning and sanitizing tasks.
  • Assist with loading, stacking, and transporting stock and work-in-process materials.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Prior experience in a fabrication shop or construction environment is preferred but not required.

Work Environment:
  • This role involves exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and physical labor. Safety equipment, including gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection, must be worn as required.
