Position Overview

The Mechanical/Millwright Inspector is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and high quality installation of mechanical systems and equipment on power generation construction projects. This role provides technical oversight, conducts detailed inspections, verifies adherence to project specifications, and supports construction teams in resolving mechanical issues. The inspector helps ensure that all rotating equipment, pumps, turbines, conveyors, and structural mechanical systems are installed accurately and operated reliably.

District Overview

TIC Power (TICP) is a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation that provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a non-union craft force. Strength in estimating and pre-project planning. Constructing cogeneration, combined-cycle, geothermal and waste-to-energy generation and resource facilities. TIC Power builds major EPC power plant projects throughout North America.

Responsibilities

   Perform inspections of mechanical and millwright work including installation, alignment, and testing of mechanical equipment.
   Verify compliance with project drawings, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
   Inspect rotating machinery (pumps, fans, turbines, compressors) for proper alignment, fit, torque, and operating conditions.
   Document deficiencies, nonconformances, and corrective actions.
   Ensure welding, rigging, and mechanical assembly meet quality standards and safety requirements.
   Review contractor work plans, method statements, and quality procedures.
   Assist in resolving technical issues related to mechanical systems or equipment installation.
   Support commissioning teams with pre operational checks and functional testing.
   Prepare detailed inspection reports, checklists, and progress logs.
   Maintain accurate as built documentation and verification records.
   Track completion of inspection activities and quality milestones.
   Ensure all mechanical construction activities follow OSHA, company, and site safety protocols.
   Conduct field audits to verify proper use of lockout/tagout, rigging practices, and equipment handling.
   Support environmental and regulatory compliance efforts.
   Work closely with engineers, construction managers, contractors, and commissioning teams.
   Communicate inspection results, risks, and recommended actions to project leadership.
   Participate in quality meetings, walkdowns, and punch list creation/closure.

Qualifications

   5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Inspector, Millwright, or mechanical trades professional in power generation, industrial construction, or energy sectors.
   Experience with turbines, boilers, pumps, conveyors, rotating machinery, or large industrial equipment installation.
   Strong understanding of mechanical systems, precision alignment, tolerances, and assembly.
   Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, mechanical specifications, and QA/QC documentation.
   Familiarity with ASME codes, API standards, and power plant or industrial construction practices.
   Knowledge of vibration analysis, laser alignment, and equipment testing (preferred).
   CWI (preferred).
