How much do unexploded ordnance jobs pay per year?
What is an Unexploded Ordnance job?
An Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) job involves locating, identifying, and safely disposing of explosive weapons that did not detonate when deployed. UXO technicians work in military sites, former battlegrounds, or construction zones where old ordnance poses a hazard. Their tasks include surveying land, using detection equipment, and following strict safety protocols to neutralize threats. This role requires specialized training and certification to ensure the safe handling of explosives.
What jobs pay $3,000 a day?
What does a typical workday look like for an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician?
A typical day for a UXO Technician often involves conducting site surveys, identifying and safely excavating potentially hazardous ordnance, and collaborating with team members to plan controlled detonations or disposal operations. You may spend significant time outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, using specialized detection and safety equipment, and following strict protocols to minimize risks. Documentation and reporting of findings are also key responsibilities, as well as continual communication with supervisors, environmental engineers, or military personnel. The role requires adaptability, safety awareness, and teamwork to ensure each operation is conducted efficiently and safely.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Unexploded Ordnance position, and why are they important?
To thrive as an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician, you need a strong background in explosive safety, ordnance identification, and hazardous materials handling, usually supported by military training or specialized certification such as UXO Technician I–III. Familiarity with tools like metal detectors, ground-penetrating radar, and GPS mapping systems is essential, along with certifications like OSHA HAZWOPER and EOD credentials. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with diverse teams are vital soft skills. These skills are crucial for ensuring the safe detection, assessment, and disposal of explosive hazards in varied and often high-risk environments.
