Job description

The Senior Commercial Underwriter within the CUW Center of Excellence operates in a regional, transversal capacity, enabling and elevating the underwriting capabilities of distribution teams across the organization by driving governance, portfolio intelligence, product management, and process excellence.
The CUW COE acts as the strategic backbone of commercial underwriting, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with Group and Regional standards across all teams that execute underwriting in the field.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Commercial Underwriting processes & governance:
  • Support and coach distribution teams and front-line commercial underwriters in structuring and pricing complex policies-without owning the transaction.
  • Develop and deliver underwriting training programs, technical guides, and reference materials to elevate expertise across the business.
  • Monitor adherence to CUW governance standards and drive adoption of G-Comm Rules by all underwriting teams.
  • Manage CUW authority letters, including the training, assessment, and approval process for distribution teams.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Commercial Systems, facilitating process optimization and operational efficiency across underwriting practices.
  • Act as the point of contact for GCC relationship management and the overall KYC process.
  • Execute and maintain monthly reporting routines to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Portfolio Steering:
  • Leverage data-driven insights to support portfolio steering activities, including the management of CUW dashboards and trend analyses in collaboration with Group Commercial and Regional/Local underwriting teams.
  • Manage policy color trends, coordinate the Red Policies Committee, and steer Green Policies initiatives to ensure portfolio health.
  • Product Management:
  • Lead the product management lifecycle from a CUW perspective: go-to-market strategy, Commercial Systems implementation, pricing framework alignment, stakeholder training, and communication.
  • Ensure new products and pricing updates are consistently adopted across distribution channels.
  • Others:
  • Participate in cross-functional assignments, strategic initiatives, and transformation projects as needed.

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • 5-8 years of related work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial underwriting or a related area, with a strong understanding of underwriting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) to support decision-making processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience in process optimization and digital transformation initiatives within the insurance industry.
  • Familiarity with Allianz's underwriting processes, systems, and governance frameworks is highly desirable.

Total compensation range:
$85,000 - $105,000
