Job Summary

As a Staff Underwriter, you'll play a pivotal role in driving commercial underwriting excellence through file reviews, mentorship, and strategic collaboration. This position offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally, analyze trends, and contribute to shaping the future of our underwriting team-all while growing your own expertise in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Work Location

This position offers both remote and hybrid work locations. Candidates who reside within 50 miles of an office location (West Bend, Madison, Appleton) will be offered a hybrid work schedule. Candidates who are fully remote (beyond 50 miles) may occasionally be asked to travel to an office location for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and corporate events.

The internal deadline to apply is 4/10/26. External applications will be accepted on a rolling basis while the position remains open.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
    Conduct quality assurance (QA) file reviews of new business, endorsements and renewals for established underwriting associates and maintain thorough documentation in InPoint and department documents.
  • Conduct quarterly focused file reviews as assigned and assist the team by looking for key trends in results.
  • Run and distribute reports as assigned. Assist the team with analysis of file review trends.
  • Attend underwriting territory and team meetings to identify important updates, trends and to provide small group mentoring.
  • Works closely with other teams, including but not limited to Product Management, Underwriting, Training and Quality Assurance.
  • Assists in technical training for new underwriters, interns and other associates.
  • Mentor interns and associates in training by conducting trainee file audits of new business quotes, renewals and endorsements, and providing guidance to develop solid understanding of products, formulating underwriting thought process, and time management/organization.
  • Answer technical questions and participate in additional file reviews as needed.
  • Provide ongoing technical training for associates on new products and services that are developed.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Five years commercial multi-line underwriting or equivalent experience

Preferred Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance or related field
  • Associate in General Insurance designation
  • Associate in Underwriting designation and CPCU course work
Salary Statement

The salary range for this position is $68,933-$86,166.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
