Job description

The Underwriter/Manager role executes all responsibilities regarding underwriting such as: credit analysis, underwriting, and monitoring from early origination discussions to development of credit approval memos, senior approval forums, conducting initial financial analysis, due diligence, projection modeling, stress testing, risk ratings and other in-depth analysis performed by junior resources. In addition, this role will have direct management over a certain number of analyst and associates within the group, and will report directly into the Technology and Communications Underwriting Head
Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for managing the end-to-end credit process of their respective portfolio, provides clear recommendations to both Risk and Banking throughout the transaction and AR lifecycle
  • Review, guide and provide final sign-off for all AR, QR, CCM and Transaction memos that require SCO designation within coverage portfolio; delegate AR/QR and/or CCM to VP (with appropriate discretion and oversight) to ensure timeliness of deliverable
  • Demonstrate industry expertise and ability to discuss relevant macro and micro issues within coverage portfolio
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Risk and Banking partners. Supports 1LOD partners in structuring transactions in accordance with Citi's underwriting standards
  • Maintain strong understanding of Citi products and minimum underwriting standards
  • Lead credit conversation with both internal and external auditors (BICR, IAA, IBQA, SNC, OCC, etc)
  • Stay current on all policy and procedural and ensure timely communication to POD members; serve as a SME on policy/procedures and disseminate any developments to POD
  • Offer credit and policy guidance to POD members; ensure monitoring checklists are completed ahead of memo completion
  • Monitor adherence to AR, QR, CCM and Transaction milestones and KPIs and flag potential delays or concerns to Regional Director
  • Share best practices and flag recurring issues with the POD and other SVPs/Regional Director; recommend efficiency improvements/additional training and track scorecard metrics within POD
  • Support POD development through formal and informal development sessions; schedule periodic check-ins with each POD team member to ensure R&Rs and expectations are understood and achieved
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, support and continued growth; ensure POD members are consistently challenged and learning
  • Timely complete all mandatory compliance trainings and complete / log [40] hours of required annual training
  • Organize and lead reinforcement of new policy/procedures for junior members to improve work quality and consistency across the team
  • Serve as SME and in person contact for team on policy/procedures questions and/or applications (e.g. Helios)
  • Tracks workload and helps to find staffing solutions to bottlenecks and urgent deliverables in cooperation with Underwriters
  • Lead the recruiting process for Analysts, Associates, and Vice Presidents roles
  • Direct Management of Analysts, Associates, and Vice Presidents (non-Jr UW)
  • Manage HR related topics (i.e. PTO, performance, holidays, sick time, etc) of those under direct management
  • Complete Performance Reviews of those under direct management
  • Coordinate with Underwriting Regional Industry Heads cross teams' tasks/initiatives

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years experience in commercial credit decision making authority for credits up to $10 million and greater
  • Expert knowledge of credit products (formal credit training required)
  • Demonstrates excellent financial and analytic skills and ability to rapidly assimilate complex information
  • Sharp business development focus, demonstrating innovative approaches

Education:
  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
