Underwater welders require strong technical skills in welding, diving, and metallurgy, typically supported by certification from commercial diving and welding programs. Competence in using specialized equipment such as underwater welding machines, diving gear, and cutting tools, along with certifications like AWS Certified Welder and commercial diver credentials, is essential. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and teamwork are important soft skills for success in this field. These qualifications are critical to ensure both safety and the high-quality execution of complex underwater construction and repair projects.
