Job description

The Role


OWL Services is searching for highly motivated people interested in being taught a trade in the Underground Storage Tank (UST) compliance testing industry. Eventually working toward advancement within the company to become a foreman and managing a work crew.

Compliance Field Technician
Location: Fort Wayne, IN (Candidates must live within 60 minutes of Fort Wayne)

Our Compliance Field Technicians perform a variety of environmental compliance and testing services for the gasoline service station industry. This is a hands-on field position that combines mechanical work, troubleshooting, testing, and technology. No two days are the same, and technicians work both independently and as part of a team to help customers maintain regulatory compliance.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Precision underground storage tank and piping tightness testing
  • Leak detector testing
  • Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) certification
  • Stage I & II vapor recovery testing
  • Cathodic protection testing
  • Secondary containment testing
  • Third-party facility operations inspections
  • Containment sump repairs
  • Gasoline and diesel fuel tank cleaning
  • Minor maintenance and repairs on fuel system equipment

Travel

  • Daily travel throughout Northeast Indiana and surrounding areas.
  • Job sites may be located anywhere from 30 minutes to up to 2 hours from Fort Wayne.
  • Candidates must reside within one hour of Fort Wayne, IN.
  • You will be driving a company issued vehicle.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing sites for testing and inspection activities
  • Setting up testing equipment and safety equipment
  • Removing manhole lids to access underground storage tanks
  • Performing precision testing, inspections, calibrations, and certifications
  • Operating, troubleshooting, and calibrating specialized testing equipment
  • Completing required documentation using tablets and other mobile technology
  • Driving a DOT-registered commercial motor vehicle to customer locations
  • Working safely while following all company and regulatory procedures

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using hand tools.
  • Experience in construction, automotive, maintenance, industrial, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fuel systems, military, or other skilled trades is highly preferred.
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding, hands-on work in outdoor environments. This position involves getting dirty while working around underground storage tank systems and fuel equipment.
  • Basic technology skills, including the ability to use a tablet, smartphone, and computer for documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with customers and team members.
  • Ability to lift 10–50 lbs. and frequently kneel, bend, reach, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety practices and regulatory requirements is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass a company-paid DOT physical and drug screen and maintain a clean driving record.
