Job description

Position Summary

The Petroleum Construction Technician performs a wide range of physical labor tasks in support of craft workers on the construction jobsite. This role assists skilled workers with the installation of underground and above-ground fuel tanks and systems, prepares and maintains tools and materials, and helps keep the jobsite safe, organized, and productive. An Underground Storage Tank (UST) license is preferred; candidates willing to obtain one will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled workers as assigned, including cutting and threading pipe and supporting the installation of underground and above-ground fuel tanks and systems.
  • Unload delivered materials, such as lumber or bags of cement, and distribute them to the appropriate location as identified by the supervisor, project plans, or specifications.
  • Assist with layout of the construction area by accurately measuring, marking, and recording openings, distances, and grades.
  • Prepare and account for tools and materials for skilled workers.
  • Clean and prepare specific areas of the jobsite as assigned, which may include digging trenches, erecting scaffolding, clearing rubble, debris, and trash, and removing hazardous materials.
  • Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools and small equipment.
  • Direct traffic near, in, or around work zones.
  • Signal equipment operators to assist with the alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
  • Clean the jobsite at the end of each day, ensuring trash is properly disposed of and materials and equipment are properly stored.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license.
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
  • Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic as needed to count and take inventory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Underground Storage Tank (UST) license; candidates willing to obtain licensure will be considered.
  • Prior construction or general labor job experience.
  • Familiarity with petroleum equipment, fuel systems, or jobsite construction environments.

Work Environment

  • Must have the physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to work some overtime and at night when needed.
