Job description

Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Underground Geotechnical Engineer I, II or III  to join our team.  The successful candidate will perform work which involves visual inspections of the underground mining activities to identify rock hazards, provide recommendations and monitor excavation performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform work which involves visual inspections of the underground mining activities to identify rock hazards, provide recommendations and monitor excavation performance.
  • Ensure adherence to the Ground Control standards and maintain the ground support QA/QC program, such as rockbolt pull-testing and UCS of shotcrete and backfill. 
  • Utilize rock mechanics properties to design ground support as needed.
  • Collect, analyze and report on geotechnical monitoring data and maintain databases. 
  • Review and advise on mine and stope designs.
  • Assist with ground control safety training programs.
  • Supervision of consultants and contractors, as necessary.
  • The candidate will also periodically assist with geotechnical mapping underground and geotechnical core logging for specific drill programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement: B.S. Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology required 
  • Geotechnical Experience: Underground 1 - 8  Years, Geotechnical Design Work preferred
  • Experience with rock mass classification systems, geotechnical analysis, structural mapping, ground support designs and underground mining QA/QC programs required
  • Familiarization with various geotechnical software packages preferred 
  • Team leadership, problem solving, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills preferred
  • Flexibility in work hours for on-call and call-outs, as needed preferred
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently required
