About The Role
The General Foreman position is responsible for on-site supervision of foremen, and all craft personnel (e.g. equipment operators, laborers, linemen, apprentices, etc.) and their activities to ensure a safe, productive, and quality job is attained and costs are controlled. Uses independent judgement in making decisions without the availability of supervision. Schedules labor, materials, tools, equipment to effectively utilize all resources. Ensures work is completed according to the specifications and contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to crews to ensure safe, efficient, and quality operations. Thorough knowledge of safety policies and guidelines and ensures the crew is adhering to same.
  • Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground distribution construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and operations including extensive switching experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to install, troubleshoot, replace and/or remove common distribution equipment including but not limited to transformers, capacitors, regulators, reclosers, switches, GOABs, CT/PT metering, and underground switchgear.
  • Appropriately plan work including manpower, equipment and material needs, and develop "look ahead" schedules.
  • Ensures work progress, equipment, and construction sites are safe, specifications are met, and work is according to schedule.
  • Ensures company and customer tools and materials are properly utilized, cared for, and secured daily.
  • Seeks the input of others, including General Foreman, crew members, and customer to assistance with problem solving and scheduling to ensure most effective and efficient technology, techniques and equipment are utilized.
  • Provide assistance to crew members engaged in construction activities, using hand tools or other equipment.
  • Ensure requests for repairs to equipment and machinery are timely to allow cost effective repairs, reduce work delays, and ensure safe working equipment.
  • Provide on-the-job training and development of crew members in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures and best practices, and/or company policies.
  • Support Working Foreman/ Project Managers to meet company goals and objectives.
  • Suggest or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, or hires. Work through the General Foreman to recruit qualified applicants and assign classifications according to demonstrated skills and abilities.
  • Understand and adhere to all company policies, processes, work practices, goals, and objectives and ensure crew members do the same.
  • Maintain positive relationships with crew members, existing customers and cultivate professional relationships with potential customers.
  • Ensure required forms, paperwork, and other information is completed and submitted including but not limited to Job Safety Analyses, electronic driver's logs, vehicle inspections, line tools/equipment inspections, timesheets, expense reports, incident reports, and redlining of work orders.
  • Ensure all required inspections of tools and equipment are performed such as rubber gloves, blankets, line hoses, insulated booms, hot line sticks, and insulated equipment handles.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical information, manuals, policies, procedures, work orders, blueprints, spec books, system maps and diagrams
  • Must possess planning/organizational skills and ability to delegate work in order to schedule crew, assign duties, and ensure completion of all projects within required deadlines.
  • Must possess good mathematical skills in order to calculate figures and amounts.
  • Must be able to deal with emergency situations, hazardous conditions, multiple priorities, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.
  • Must possess good communication skills to relay expectations and company goals and objectives to crew members.
  • Must possess leadership skills to provide guidance and training to assigned personnel in a safe effective and positive manner.
  • Must be able to understand and use the English language, both oral and written, to communicate information, instructions, and ideas to other personnel.
  • Must be dependable and trustworthy

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to outdoor elements.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The position must have the ability to lift heavy objects weighing at times up to 50 pounds and carry that weight a minimum of 20 feet on a regular, recurring basis. Must have the ability to walk over uneven, steep, or difficult terrain for distances of over one mile on a regular, recurring basis and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Must be able to carry 25 pounds of gear while working in an aerial lift device with a weight limit of 350 pounds. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to climb up to and onto elevated equipment and stand for long periods of time. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Must have the ability to hear long distances, see long distances and differentiate between colors, and have depth perception.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work. MUST be willing to travel for storm recovery, length of stay will depend on volume of work.
Travel
The position primarily works out-of-town during the workweek which requires weekly overnight travel. Out of area and extended travel is common and dictated by customer demand and power outages related to various natural disasters. Must be available to travel for work routinely and with very little notice.
Key Qualifications
  • Proficient in troubleshooting primary and secondary systems, including identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues.
  • Skilled in splicing and switching operations, with attention to accuracy, safety, and industry standards.
  • Experienced in building risers and performing related installation and routing tasks.
  • Capable of performing moderate overhead work, following proper safety procedures and meeting physical task requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience working on and around energized high-voltage primary electric line.

  • Must possess a valid CDL-A license with clear driving record.

Key Nice-To-Haves
  • Completion of an apprentice program or technical training as a lineman.

  • Multiple years in a Journeyman Lineman classification.
