Job description

AUI Inc. (AUI Power) is seeking a skilled, self-motivated, and dependable team player to join our AUI Power as an Underground Journeyman/Cableman. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in physical, hands-on work and want to end each day knowing they contributed to essential infrastructure. Position Summary:
The Underground Journeyman/Cableman performs highly skilled, journey-level transmission, distribution, and electrical work in the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of underground electric transmission, distribution and service lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment, electrical substations, and related equipment. Work requires rigid observance of safety protocol, working during inclement weather conditions and handling high voltage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with:
    • Installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical powerlines
    • Installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of distribution, transmission, and substation facilities
    • Service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems
  • Complete online, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as providing training/mentorship for project team apprentices and groundhands
  • Operate motorized equipment and hand tools
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery and tools
  • Demonstrate and apply proper procedures to determine whether electrical lines are energized or de-energized, in accordance with safety standards and protocols
  • Know and follow safety rules, practices, and regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work zone in high-traffic pedestrian areas (city environments)
  • Clean and maintain equipment, trucks, and tools
  • Site cleanup

Minimum Requirements:
  • 5+ Years of previous experience
  • Posses strong working knowledge of:
    • Installation and maintenance of various types of distribution and transmission lines ranging from 4kV to 500kV
    • Hot stick work
    • Adjustment and calibration of tooling (as applicable)
    • Testing and examination of safety equipment
    • Lockout and tagging procedures
    • Electrical safety and how electricity works (static, AC, DC, Grounding, Phasing, ect.)
    • How to operate support and digging equipment, pulling carts, reel trailers, etc.
    • Types of electrical equipment used on underground systems
    • Determining whether lines are energized/de-energized
  • Must have a current, valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Work 40+ hours per week to include during inclement weather, holidays, and/or weekends as needed
  • Willing to work overtime, travel long distances on short notice for storm and/or emergency events as needed
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, and kneel on a regular basis
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screen
