University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is looking for extraordinary Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our nursing team.ย Come elevate your skills and experience by working with a world-class, Magnet designated Academic Medical Center. UMMC is the flagship academic medical center at the heart of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) located in downtown Baltimore.

The Shock Trauma Post-Anesthesia Care Unit is a one-of-a-kind 12-bed, Phase 1 post-anesthesia care unit located in the Shock Trauma Tower 24 hours/day, 365 days/year.ย The clinical population is primarily adult patients (some adolescents) requiring post-operative care specializing in traumatic injury management.ย ย Beyond recovery care and procedural nursing, this team also accepts overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit when needed to maintain trauma patient admission capacity.ย 

This team is guided by American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (ASPAN) Standards and maintains education/competency expectations across peri-anesthesia, trauma and critical care specialties in accordance with their role serving roughly 20 surgical/medical services.ย Nurses on this team must be passionate, energetic, and high-functioning professionals skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration, looking for a complex and dynamic clinical environment.ย As a part of the Primary Adult Resource Center for Trauma among the other Level 1 Trauma Centers in the region, this PACU is like no other.ย 


Work Experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland or eligible to practice under a compact license
  • BSN preferred (Associates Nurses with at least 2+ years of experience)
  • Minimum 2 years ICU experience required (Surgical/Trauma ICU preferred)
  • Current BLS & ACLS required for hire
  • Must be flexible, adaptable and able to critically think through complex patient scenarios.
