PositionSummary
The Department ofPathology at theUniversity of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a full-time academicdermatopathologist to join our faculty serving as an expert consultant. Rank and tenure will be commensurate with thecandidate's experience, qualifications, and funding.
The Department of Pathology is among the country'sfastest-growing academic departments and is structured to provide a uniqueenvironment to foster the development of academic careers. UIC is the country's largest and most diversemedical school and ranks among the top colleges of medicine in the growth ofextramural grant funding. The University ofIllinois College of Medicine and Cook County Health, one of the largest publichealth systems in the country, have a multi-faceted collaborative partnership spanningmedical education, clinical care, and research.
This position will provide advanceddermatopathology expertise and collaboration with clinicians and basic scienceinvestigators. In addition, opportunities exist to participate in othersub-specialty pathology diagnostic services at the University of Illinois atChicago, depending on qualifications and interest.
Duties andResponsibilities
Clinical Service Responsibilities
Provide expert dermatopathology diagnostic services, including interpretation of skin biopsies, excisions, and complex consultations cases.
Clinical effort may be adjusted in consultation with leadership if additional time is needed for research or academic priorities.
Serve as a consultant for challenging dermatopathology cases, including inflammatory dermatoses, cutaneous neoplasms, and adnexal disorders.
Ensure accurate and timely case sign-out in compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.
Education and teaching responsibilities.
Lead didactic and case-based education for medical students, residents, and fellows in dermatopathology.
Participate in tumor boards, unknown conferences, and journal clubs.
Contribute to CME programs for pathologists, dermatologists, and trainees.
Assist in the selection and assessment of pathology trainees rotating through dermatopathology.
Scholarly and clinical investigation responsibilities.
Maintain an active program of translational and/or clinical research in dermatopathology, with a focus on advancing diagnostic, prognostic, or therapeutic understanding of skin diseases.
Collaborate with departmental and inter-departmental research teams within the medical center, including dermatology, oncology, and immunology.
Pursue external funding opportunities to support research initiatives in cutaneous pathology.
Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and postdoctoral researchers in scholarly projects related to dermatopathology.
Guide trainees in research methodology, publications and presentations at academic conferences.
Develop partnerships with clinical dermatology, surgical oncology, and research faculty to promote multidisciplinary studies in cutaneous diseases.
Community & professional service.
Serve on hospital/ university committees and in professional societies (e.g. ASDP, USCAP).
Participate in grant review panels or editorial boards for dermatopathology journals.
Contribute to laboratory quality assurance and protocol development for skin pathology.
Perform additional duties as assigned by Department of Pathology leadership.
Other responsibilities
MinimumQualifications
Candidates must hold an MD, DO, MD/PhD, DO/PhD, or anequivalent medical degree, be eligible for a medical license in Illinois, andhave board certification in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and ClinicalPathology (AP/CP). Board eligibility or certification in dermatopathology ispreferred.
