Job Summary

This entry level position in our Lancaster, PA office performs support to field operations on general construction and maintenance tasks.  Employees are qualified by training and experience to do all pipefitting and construction tasks with direct supervision including; excavation, flagging, emergency response, basic backhoe/trencher operation, dump truck operator, gas main and service installation/repair and will be eligible for duty crew and on-call responsibilities when judged qualified. 

Primary focus will be on safety and on the job training.  Employees will enter a four tiered progression and obtain Operator Qualification training on a limited number of Covered Tasks as outlined in the Operator Qualification Progression Plan (OQ Progression Plan) to progress to Mechanic II level. 

The successful candidate must live within the service territory of the job location and will be required to hold or obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within the first six months of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Gas and main service installations and repair.
  • Backhoe, trencher, and dump truck operation.
  • Facilities locating.
  • Updating facilities records.
  • Turning gas services on.
  • After hours emergency response.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and pipeline construction.
  • Mechanical ability and be able to do physical labor.
  • Must be able to pass a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) test and pre-employment drug test and a general health physical and physical abilities test. 
  • Safe Driving History (confirmed by driver's record check) - recent and/or multiple driving violations may disqualify a candidate from employment.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license during course of employment.
  • Must be able to follow all Company safety policies and procedures and protect Company assets.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Experience in natural gas, construction, maintenance, or related field preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Vocation Techincal school/training a plus
