Familiarity with security systems, surveillance equipment, and report-writing software is essential. Excellent interpersonal communication, resilience under pressure, and conflict de-escalation abilities enable effective interactions with inmates and colleagues. These combined skills help maintain facility safety and order while ensuring compliance with regulations and humane treatment standards.

Turnkeys often encounter challenges such as managing difficult inmate behavior, responding to emergencies quickly, and balancing the enforcement of rules with treating inmates fairly and respectfully.
