We are seeking a curious, independent Systems Engineer in our Columbia, SC office. The Systems Engineer is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and securing Turner Padget's enterprise infrastructure. This role requires experience in network configuration and administration, endpoint optimization, and providing technical support to Turner Padget employees.

Job Responsibilities

Network Administration

  • Provide advanced network administration and troubleshooting for ISP, MPLS, SD-WAN and internal wired and wireless infrastructure, resolving connectivity and performance issues
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot network firewalls, modems, routers, and switches
  • Support and maintain network closets, including patching, cabling, and labeling racks and switches
  • Create and maintain office network maps
  • Utilize DMZ, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs to ensure reliable network segmentation, security, and quality of service
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve network-level incidents and maintain network uptime
  • Support secure remote access solutions, including VPN provisioning, certificateโ€‘based authentication, and access control enforcement

Systems Engineering

  • Work with Active Directory and Group Policy to manage user accounts, policies, and domain services
  • Maintain SCCM infrastructure for imaging, deploying, patching all firm endpoints to ensure compliance with software & security requirements
  • Prepare for the next generation of firm endpoints by building new Windows 11-based computer images and deployment packages
  • Strategically plan network and hardware maintenance windows, accounting for the needs and schedules of company employees
  • Ensure compliance with current industry security standards
  • Provide general Tier II and III technical support to attorneys and staff within a Windows environment with an emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite, iManage Work, Active Directory & Azure authentication, and network connectivity

Security

  • Mitigate software vulnerability by deploying updates and maintaining secure configurations across servers and endpoints
  • Reduce attack surface through use of DMZ and management of open ports and access paths
  • Enforce secure authentication policies and privileged access controls

Other

  • Contribute to IT team knowledge base by creating and updating documentation
  • Up to 20% travel โ€“ typically same day only โ€“ to remote offices within South Carolina, Augusta GA, and Charlotte, NC

Team Requirements

  • Collaborate with other IT Team members on projects, enhancements, and day-to-day operations
  • Able to work independently, involving, but not limited to:
    • Following and creating technical documentation
    • Evaluating emerging network security trends
    • Completing software deployments during maintenance windows
  • Support end users through creative solutions to everyday impediments
  • Coordinate with vendors in installing, upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting network
  • Recognize that the candidate's customers are the attorneys and staff of the law firm, and to be able to adapt according to their needs
  • Be personable, pleasant, and clear in speaking to end users and business project owners when affirming business practices or assisting with technical issues

Technical Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 3 years work-related experience
  • CCNA/CCNP Certification preferred
  • Experience with:
    • Cisco Catalyst and Meraki switch configuration and maintenance
    • Sophos Firewalls
    • SCCM for building and deploying Windows images
    • Cisco Unified Communications a plus
  • Proficiency with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Office Suite, Exchange 365, and Zoom
  • Familiarity with multiโ€‘site environments
  • Exposure to legalโ€‘industry applications such as eDiscovery, Document Management, and Case Management systems a plus
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving techniques
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
