Description
Under the direction of the assigned manager, perform a variety of work in maintaining athletic facilities; and prepare fields, gyms, and swimming pool for various athletic events. The Athletic Facilities Attendant is responsible for maintaining athletic facilities, as well as preparing such facilities for athletic events.
Responsibilities and Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform routine and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of athletic buildings and facilities. Communicate with the maintenance manager regarding building and facility needs.
  • Perform a variety of routine maintenance duties including basic replacement of light bulbs and electrical wall plates; assist with electrical, plumbing, carpentry as needed.
  • Monitor the condition of athletic fields to ensure quality of turf, both synthetic and natural; sweep and water turf; keep records of maintenance performed. Communicate with the grounds manager regarding athletic field needs.
  • Operate equipment such as turf sweepers, pool vacuums, and various hand and power tools; maintain all hand tools and equipment; make minor repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Assist in pruning and maintaining landscaped areas; consisting of bushes, trees, flowers and shrubs associated with the athletic fields and courts as necessary.
  • Participate in minor vehicular preventive maintenance programs, such as checking fluid levels, hoses, tires and brakes; clean and wash vehicles as needed.
  • Participate in campus recycling efforts as assigned.
  • Maintain the sprinkler system associated with athletic areas; test irrigation systems and repair as needed; and assist in the installation of new systems.
  • Identify needed repairs to athletic fields and communicate needs to the maintenance manager. Make minor, specified repairs to damaged athletic fields and associated facilities including gymnasiums, swimming pools, tennis courts, bleachers, turf fields, track and soccer facilities.
  • Coordinate and schedule all maintenance and preparation of athletic facilities for classes, practices, scheduled games and special events including hanging athletic banners to the auditorium ceiling as necessary.
  • Assist with preparing athletic facilities for athletic events including audio set-up, bleachers, handrails, net set-up, and scoring tables set-up.
  • Prepare athletic facilities for use in special events including graduation ceremonies; set-up and disassemble equipment and fixtures.
  • Assist with maintaining facilities for off-site events. Open/close gates, secure District rooms and facilities for practices, scheduled games and special events.
  • Operate assigned vehicles, box trucks, forklift, and scissor lift when needed. Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and materials needed to perform essential job functions; order and stock supplies as required.
  • Replenish restroom supplies and empty exterior and interior trash receptacles during and after athletic events.
  • Perform delivery services; operate assigned vehicle to obtain and deliver items as needed; ensure accuracy of deliveries and pick-ups; and travel to various off-campus areas to pick up/drop off materials for on-campus functions.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Methods and practices for maintaining athletic facilities and turfs.
  • Proper materials, tools and equipment used in maintaining a variety of athletic facilities and turfs.
  • Acceptable and safe conditions of athletic turf for the conduct of athletic events.
  • Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment used in the preparation and maintenance of athletic turf.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.

Ability to:
  • Perform a variety of athletic facilities and turf maintenance functions.
  • Evaluate athletic facilities conditions for wear, problems and other needs.
  • Prepare athletic facilities for use in special events.
  • Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, power tools, and hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
  • Deliver and pick up items safely and accurately, on and off campus.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas of campus property when necessary.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Perform minor sprinkler repairs and unclogging gutters as needed.
  • Work in a variety of environmental and weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:One year of experience of increasingly responsible grounds or athletic facility maintenance with an agency, company, or organization.
OTHER CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required by the time of appointment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid forklift certification within 30 days of appointment.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within six months of appointment.
