Lead CNC Waterjet & Tube Laser Programmer/Operator

Location: Onsite

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Lead CNC Waterjet & Tube Laser Programmer/Operator to join our growing manufacturing team. This highly visible role is responsible for programming, setup, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of both CNC abrasive waterjet and tube laser cutting equipment.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities and enjoys working in a fast-paced fabrication environment. You will lead daily production activities, optimize machine performance, train team members, and collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure exceptional quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery.


Key Responsibilities

CNC Programming & Operation

  • Program CNC waterjet and tube laser systems from customer drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and engineering specifications.
  • Create, modify, and optimize cutting programs for maximum efficiency, throughput, and material utilization.
  • Convert CAD files into production-ready cutting programs.
  • Perform machine setup, tooling configuration, material loading, and first-piece verification.
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy and adherence to customer specifications.

Production Leadership

  • Lead day-to-day waterjet and tube laser production activities.
  • Monitor workflow, machine utilization, and production schedules.
  • Train, mentor, and support operators on equipment setup, operation, quality standards, and best practices.
  • Coordinate priorities with engineering, quality, and production teams.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Diagnose and resolve programming, cutting quality, alignment, and machine performance issues.
  • Adjust cutting parameters to optimize quality and productivity.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and basic mechanical repairs.
  • Replace wear components including nozzles, mixing tubes, seals, lenses, and related consumables.
  • Maintain equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

Quality & Process Improvement

  • Verify quality standards through inspections and first-article approvals.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
  • Analyze processes and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Assist with implementation of process enhancements and manufacturing best practices.
  • Utilize performance metrics to monitor productivity, quality, and equipment performance.


Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of CNC programming and operating experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Experience programming and operating CNC waterjet, tube laser, or similar cutting equipment.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints, fabrication drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong troubleshooting, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience performing machine setup, preventive maintenance, and production optimization.
  • Ability to work independently while leading production activities.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with OMAX, Flow, Trumpf, BLM, Mazak, Bystronic, or comparable systems.
