Their main duties involve transporting materials, tools, and equipment to and from work sites, performing routine vehicle inspections, and assisting with highway maintenance tasks. This role typically requires a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and the ability to perform manual labor. Truck Driver Light positions often serve as entry-level opportunities within VDOT, providing support to crews responsible for road repairs, snow removal, and other transportation-related activities.

Perfect for:
  • A mechanically inclined individual
  • A tow truck operator looking for steady hours
  • A semi-retired A technician who wants to stay active without flat-rate pressure

What You'll Do
  • Tow customer vehicles to the dealership when needed
  • Oil changes and routine maintenance
  • Tire mounting and balancing
  • Wheel alignments
  • Brake service
  • Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on new vehicles
  • Assist technicians with light shop work
  • Making sure our tow truck is maintained, clean, and ready to use

Pay & Schedule
  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience (Range $20- $27+)
  • Additional pay for after-hours towing calls
  • Mostly daytime shop hours
  • On-call occasionally for nights/weekends (not frequent)

Requirements
  • Valid class D driver's license with DOT medical card and clean driving record
  • Basic mechanical ability
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a tow truck
  • Dependable and team-oriented

Why Work Here
  • Stable dealership environment
  • Variety in your day (not stuck doing one thing)
  • Opportunity to grow into a full technician role
  • Consistent hours and local work

This position is ideal for someone looking to grow into a full automotive technician role.
