Pay Transparency: This position's annual salary range is $104K - $124K DOE.

Job Summary:

The Major Gifts Officer plays an important role in helping Treehouse achieve an ambitious, relationship-centered fundraising program that generates more than $7M annually in individual and major gifts to meet the needs of youth in foster care across Washington state. The Major Gifts Officer serves as a mission-driven, equity-centered staff member who contributes regularly to advance the organization's values.


This individual contributor role identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards high-net-worth donors to secure transformative revenue, implements comprehensive multiyear fundraising strategies, and manages a portfolio of major donors to help deepen engagement and significantly grow philanthropic investment in Treehouse's mission. 


The Major Gifts Officer works directly with Treehouse staff, donors, and community members to help ensure the needs of the youth Treehouse serves are met, aligning fundraising goals with programmatic and operational goals through a culturally responsive and inclusive approach, with acknowledgement of the trauma experienced by youth in care. This role helps dismantle systemic inequities, promote psychological safety, engage in equitable practices across systems, and contribute to an organizational culture rooted in dignity, accountability, and care in service of the youth that Treehouse supports.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with a high-capacity, diverse portfolio of approximately 150 community leaders and individuals with the intent of cultivating investments of time and financial support. 
  • Develop and carry out personalized engagement, solicitation, and stewardship plans for each donor. 
  • Implement multi-year, customized 'moves management' plans for top-tier donors under the guidance of the Sr. Director, Leadership Giving, leveraging sophisticated storytelling to align donor passions with organizational priorities, centering Treehouse's value of abundance.
  • Deploy individualized cultivation strategies that harness the full potential of the people and programs of Treehouse and incorporate the organization's values. 
  • Conduct face-to-face meetings and virtual calls, and attend regional events to build deep relationships and present compelling funding proposals. 
  • Collaborate using prospect research and Development staff input to identify new major gift contacts with diverse donors and produce informative, concise contact reports for each contact. Research individual and diverse prospects for investment, special project funding, and planned gifts. 
  • Host and/or facilitate investor meetings.
  • Write and present personalized proposals to prospective and diverse investors. 
  • Deliver ongoing, personal reporting to donors on the impact of their investments. 
  • Track all donor contacts and proposals through CRM. 
  • Serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for Treehouse and youth experiencing foster care, in alignment with all Treehouse staff. 
  • Partner with the Treehouse Board, staff, and volunteers to help build a culture of philanthropy. 
  • Assist with planning and implementation of donor events. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements


Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of development experience or sales or account management with high-net-worth individuals, preferably in a nonprofit setting. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sales proficiency, and experience cultivating lasting partnerships and driving revenue.
  • Must satisfy Washington State and national criminal and MVR background requirements as appropriate.
  • Reliable transportation and current driver's license required, with minimum WA State driver insurance coverage. Driving record must be approved by Treehouse's insurance provider.

  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. 
  • Ability to thrive while working independently outside an office setting, while maintaining trusting, healthy relationships with coworkers and manager to promote a productive workplace culture and strong employee engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.  
  • Experience with Salesforce or other donor CRM software 
  • Ability and ptoficiency with Microsoft O365 and other technologies necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position; Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, with limited evening and weekend work required.
  • Must reside within Washington State to meet workplace reporting requirements.
  • In-office required; hybrid schedule as determined

Travel:

  • Local travel for donor meetings and participation in other events.
  • Limited regional travel, including possible overnight stays.
