What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Urban Forester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Urban Forester, you need a solid background in forestry, arboriculture, or environmental science, typically supported by a relevant degree and field experience. Familiarity with GIS mapping software, tree inventory systems, and certifications such as ISA Certified Arborist are commonly required. Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills help build community relationships and manage urban tree projects effectively. These skills are critical for maintaining healthy urban forests, ensuring public safety, and promoting sustainability in city environments.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working at Tree Trust and how can they be addressed?

Professionals at Tree Trust often balance fieldwork, community engagement, and administrative responsibilities. A common challenge is coordinating with diverse stakeholders, such as city officials, volunteers, and community members, to ensure successful tree-planting or conservation projects. Weather and environmental factors can also affect project timelines. Addressing these challenges involves strong communication skills, flexibility, and proactive planning. Team members frequently collaborate, sharing insights and resources to problem-solve and adapt to changing conditions.

What is a Tree Trust and what do they do?

A Tree Trust is typically a nonprofit organization focused on preserving, planting, and maintaining trees in urban and community environments. Their work often involves urban forestry, environmental education, and workforce development programs related to tree care and landscaping. Tree Trusts may collaborate with local governments, schools, and businesses to increase green spaces and promote sustainability. By improving tree coverage, they aim to enhance air quality, reduce urban heat, and provide natural beauty for communities.

Job description

Join Joshua Tree Experts North Denver as a Crew Leader and play a critical role in delivering safe, professional, high-quality tree care across residential and commercial properties.
We're building a strong, respectful, safety-first operation in North Denver, and the people who join us early will help set the standard for how work gets done in the field. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on executing and leading day-to-day tree care operations while working within Joshua Tree Experts' proven systems and standards.
As a key member of our Tree care team, you'll help establish the field standards, culture, and professionalism that define our reputation as we grow.
About the Role
Crew Leaders oversee daily job-site execution while working alongside their crew. This is a customer-facing role that requires clear communication, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities - including homeowners, property managers, sales arborists, and crew members.
You'll be trusted to represent Joshua Tree Experts on job sites and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in a way that reflects the culture we're intentionally building in North Denver.
What You'll Do
  • Lead and work alongside the tree crew performing residential and commercial tree care
  • Perform and delegate pruning, removals, cabling, and bracing
  • Operate lifts, loaders, chainsaws, chippers, and related equipment safely
  • Communicate professionally with customers on-site
  • Coordinate with sales and office teams to ensure job scope alignment
  • Monitor equipment condition and job-site safety
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork

What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 5 years of professional tree care experience
  • Strong understanding of safe tree care operations
  • Ability to climb and work safely and efficiently
  • Comfort interacting with customers and leading crews
  • Ability to work effectively with different personalities
  • Valid driver's license (CDL-B preferred)
  • ISA Certified Arborist preferred

Training, Growth & Our Commitment
Joshua Tree Experts invests in our field leaders through paid training, continuing education, and certification support. As the territory grows, strong Crew Leaders may take on larger crews, more complex jobs, and expanded leadership responsibilities. We're committed to a workplace built on safety, professionalism, accountability, and respect.
Ready to Apply?
If you're an experienced Crew Leader who takes pride in leading quality work and growing with a strong team, we'd love to hear from you.
