Diesel Mechanic – Specialized Tree Equipment

JOB OVERVIEW

Tri-State Tree Service is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of specialized tree service equipment, including bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and heavy diesel machinery. This hands-on role supports daily operations in our well-equipped facility, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Maintenance & Repair


  1. Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulics
  2. Perform preventive maintenance and emergency field repairs
  3. Run diagnostic tests and verify repairs through test drives
  4. Ensure equipment meets performance and safety standards

Advanced Technical Work


  1. Troubleshoot electrical systems and use diagnostic software
  2. Service aerial lifts, chippers, stump grinders
  3. Execute major repairs: engine rebuilds, transmission overhauls, hydraulics
  4. Conduct DOT inspections and maintain compliance

Shop Operations


  1. Maintain service records and manage parts inventory
  2. Order/install parts and maintain organized workspaces
  3. Collaborate with crews on equipment performance and upgrades

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS


Required


  1. 3+ years of experience with heavy equipment or diesel vehicles
  2. Deep knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  3. Skilled in using diagnostic software and tools
  4. Valid driver’s license and clean MVR
  5. Ability to read schematics and technical documents

Essential Skills


  1. Strong diagnostic and repair problem-solving

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
