Role Overview
The Research Cocoa Science Contractor supports high-complexity R&D projects and leads smaller initiatives under guidance. This role involves hands-on experimentation, analytical testing, pilot plant operations, and maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards. The position requires strong organizational skills, technical competency, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities1. Laboratory & Pilot Plant Operations (35%)- Operate lab, pilot plant, and analytical equipment
- Conduct food characterization and experimental trials
- Prepare snacks and confectionery products for testing
- Support pilot plant operations and equipment setup
- Record experimental observations accurately
- Perform basic data analysis and interpretation
- Maintain detailed documentation and reports
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with standards
- Clean and maintain lab and pilot plant equipment
- Ensure compliance with food safety (GMP, FSMA) standards
- Maintain organized and safe workspaces
- Track lab supplies and materials
- Manage inventory and place orders as needed
- Benchtop product development using food processing techniques
- Planning and executing lab tests (setup, run, cleanup)
- Supporting scale-up trials and sample production
- Assisting in pilot plant testing and operations
- Collaborating with project leaders on execution plans
- Data entry, basic calculations, and use of software tools
This role works closely with:

- Experience with food processing equipment and instrumentation
- Exposure to cocoa/chocolate processing (preferred)
- Familiarity with food characterization techniques
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
